run in background
very simple idea, at the moment if you close the sidebar, then medium closes, and stops running, it would be useful to have an option to run in the background so that your friends could still see what you are viewing, but the sidebar isnt taking up any precious screen room.
It might also be useful to have some sort of smaller notifcations in this mode, IM style maybe, or in the stausbar.

The idea of having it run in the background and not in the browser is a great one. We'll definitely kick that around at our next brainstorming event.
As for the notifications, what other types of notifications would you like to see?

Inappropriate?Clarifying question for you Bagano. We have a bit of an internal debate about what you were suggesting. :)
When you asked for Me.dium to run in the background did you mean:
1. Break it out of the browser and let it run like AIM where you're notified when someone wants to chat, but when you interact with Me.dium it will sit in a new window on top of your browser
or
2. Keep Me.dium in the browser, but allow you to minimize (or close) and notify you when someone wants to chat.
The difference being the first would be a separate window and the second would still take up space in your browser when you wanted to message someone.

Inappropriate?I would like it to dock to the side(leaving a narrow tab as some other apps do, and popout when I click on an arrow, or the bar itself. If someone messages me, I would like to be subtly notified (flashing icon or other) so that I can either ignore it or expand it back out.
