tinyurl with click tracking
Another suggestion for Mento.
I use tinyurl for Twitter posting. If I could use a Mento URL shortener that told me something about the clicks, I'd consider switching.
Considerations I use choosing URL shortener, in order of importance:
1. Must privide clean 301 redirect. Not 302. Not refresh. Not JavaScript. Not preview page. Real 301.
2. Must provide permanent URLs that will work 10 years from now.
3. Nice if the URLs are extra-short.
4. Bonus points if I generate the URL or the entire Twitter post from the extension, but I don't have this now and live without.
The main challenge is (2), of course -- communicating commitment in ways other than having been around for a long time.

Inappropriate? We've refrained from offering a generic TinyURL-like service because it has a number of implications and user expectations, some of which you similarly identify above.
Nonetheless, when you Twitter via Mento (have you tried it?), we do give you a tracking URL that's wrapped in a TinyURL -- so your clicks via Twitter will get counted.
Just as an FYI: To twitter links from Mento, simply send them to "Twitter" in the Mento Box. If you include a message, the format will be [message] [tiny url] -- without a message, it'll be [title of the page] [tiny url]. All tweets are sent immediately and should be less than 120 characters to go through. Here's an example from my stream: http://twitter.com/grex/statuses/8308...
Let me know if you tried that. Where else would you use Mento's TinyURL-like service? (just trying to understand the different use cases)

Inappropriate?I didn't know about the feature of posting to Twitter. Indeed, this is what I was looking for.
P.S. go.mento.info now does 302 redirects. Would it be possible to change this to 301 so Google juice passes to the actual page I'm posting instead of staying in the redirector and not doing any good there? Thanks.
I’m embarrassed you've done this already

Inappropriate?I can't find Twitter as an addressee. Twitter account is connected.
I click on the Mento icon on the toolbar. Popup appears. I select "Send". I look around for the word "Twitter" -- nope. I start typing "Twitter" into the address bar, which brings up Leo Laporte (his username is, of course, twit).
Where is this, again? -
Inappropriate?Twitter appeared as addressee after delay and browser restart.
The only small remaining point is the change from 302 to 301.
Thank you. -
Inappropriate? It takes experts like you to point out the advantage of 301 vs 302. Mento is now 301'ing -- thanks for your help!
I’m playing with curl
