Can I get a functional Vista OS?
My Dell Inspiron 1720 came with Windows Vista. There was no option for XP at the time. Vista is rediculously unstable and should have been a beta version at best! I refuse to risk running the SP1 download which has less than a 50-50 chance of actually working the way it was designed to work, and a good chance of rendering my computer even more unusable that it already is!
Why can't I purchase a Vista CD with SP1 integrated so I have a fighting chance by making a clean and usable install? I'm so tired of Microsoft releasing their operating systems prematurely only to let the public debug them for free! By the time most of the bugs have been reported and fixed, the next OS has already come out and we have to start all over again! Can I get a "stable" version of Vista to install or do I have to trash it alltogether and go back to XP SP3 which is the only relatively stable Microsoft OS since Windows 2000.

Inappropriate?Have you contacted your OEM (your PC manufacturer)? This would be your best contact if you are unable to obtain the Service Pack directly via Windows Update.

Inappropriate? You can now purchase Vista with Service Pack 1 from a retail outlet, but since you already have Vista installed on your laptop your best bet would be to download and install SP1. SP1 addressed a number of common customer issues - you can see the FAQ at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/959064
Just out of curiosity, what parts of your OS are unusable? I've been running Vista since before it was released and haven't had any major issues since RTM. Perhaps we can help address the individual problems if you would please list them here?
Cheers!
