Inappropriate?Ouch. That's a pretty harsh statement. I work for the Silverlight team and want to help (after all, isn't that what this site is about?). We've got a lot of Mac implementations and no reports of complete internet failure. I'm assuming this might be using FF3? If so, there are some known issues, but I'd love to know what site you were trying to visit and what version of Silverlight you installed.
I’m wanting to help
-
Inappropriate?firstly, I have to say I'm impressed because for a lot of time I've had this crazy idea that no one really reads those crash reports and such.
secondly, because you were so kind to reply to my problem I'll give you the full description:
I saw a commercial for Silverlight on the http://www.microsoft.com site and I wanted to see if it really as good as you say it is. And after I installed it my internet connection was lost (not the home network, just the internet) and when I realized that the problem isn't with the router, or the browser(it failed both in FF and in safari) I figured out it was the Silverlight and I removed it. After it was removed the Internet came back and I wrote this angry letter at you (sorry about that ;) ). It could be that if I were to complete restart the computer it would have worked but I doubt that because I did logged out and in my user.
That's what happened if you have any more questions about the computer I was running or anything like that I'd be happy to answer them.
P.S.
I still think FF and safari are better than IE, that songbird and itunes are better than windows media player and that Vista was a HUGE mistake(but thats for another discussion).
I’m Sorry

Inappropriate?Eyal -- what version of Silverlight did you install and did the same behavior happen on FF or Safari
-
Inappropriate?Silverlight issues are uncommon, check this twitter search
-
Inappropriate?Thomas: let's be fair here please. I didn't say there wasn't an issue here for Eyal. In fact I said there were known issues with FF3 (which was just released) and Silverlight (which some versions are still in Beta). In my blog I've documented some of these and some fixes. In fact we just released an update to the runtime to respond to some of the FF3 issues (which is where the crashes were reported).
-
Inappropriate?I'm not sure if that the version but I installed silverlight eula and yes the same behavior happened on FF and safari.
P.S.
I think that the report FF gave me on the crash incident wasn't the normal one that you get when you can't access the internet but as far as I can remember (and don't catch me on the phrasing) it stated that it found no problem with the connection and I should try a different URL (which I did). -
Inappropriate?Eyal: if you are interested in trying again, we released an update to our Beta 2 runtime (version ending in .08) that has some specific fixes for FF3 in it. I don't want you to download something you don't feel you need, but if you are interested in trying again, I'd encourage you to get the latest from http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/...

Inappropriate?have you figured out what was it that caused my internet connection to go psycho?
I’m ???
-
Inappropriate?Hard to tell, you haven't provided me with what version you installed. I will say though that there were some early weird reports of a particular build we had in combination with a specific router that was causing reports. I don't think we ever confirmed anything, but we haven't heard such in the latest builds.

Inappropriate?Opened Silverlight on my Mac for netflix. Worked for a couple days now Netflix opens the file but no movie. all roads lead back to changing pref. When I right click Silverlight crashes every time. Reinstalled several times. NO good. Enyone have this happen.
-
Inappropriate?Really? I've got Silverlight installed (about:plugins says it's version 2.0.31005.0) and I haven't had problems watching Netflix ever since they came out with the Silverlight version.
What version do you have installed? Go to about:plugins in the URL bar if you're using Firefox, I don't know what you do in Safari.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Hi.
I'm on a PPC os X 10.4.11 running FF3.5.3 and Safari 4.0.3 and I've installed silverlight 5 times now (v.1.0 appears in the lower right hand corner of the install window) and it just keeps asking me to install it when I return to the "experience smooth streaming" page. among others (tried 5 sites now). How many more times should I install it? Even tried restarting the 'puter to no avail. -
Inappropriate?Pullah- the version it is asking you to install is not supported on mac PPC platform.
-
Inappropriate?according to their own site, yes, it is the right version. In fact, the only version for OS10.4.11.
http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/...
And, I quote, "Mac OS 10.4.8+ (PowerPC): Silverlight 1.0 only" from the Apple site.
I’m indifferent

Inappropriate?powerBook G4 OSX 10.4.11
I have been troubleshooting why my internet connection is causing iTunes 9 and Safari to quit (Started around 10/26/09). They run fine without an internet connection and then crash as soon as I plug my ethernet back in and they try to access something onlilne.
I was cleaning up my desktop and found a silverlight dmg folder. I don't know when it was downloaded or if it really was installed, as my husband also uses the same computer (he does know better than to download or install anything without my approval first). FF 3.0.15. Runs fine. Could it have come during one of the updates of Office 2004?
I would like to know where to look for the plugin as a search for silverlight is not yeiding any results other than the dmg folder, now in my trash can.
I’m perturbed
