Get rid of 'Microsoft Points' and price everything in local currencies on Xbox LIVE.
One thing that I don't like about Xbox Live Marketplace is the whole 'Microsoft Points' system. As I'm browsing the store, it's difficult to work out what things actually cost in terms of real money. So I have to go online and find out how much a Microsoft Point is worth in £, then I have to load my account up with a set amount of points (100, 500, 1000 etc) and then I can finally buy what I wanted! But then after that, I'm usually left with a useless amount of leftover points, too few to spend on anything.
This is one reason why a buy my media on iTunes rather than LIVE marketplace. With iTunes, I know exactly how much I'm spending.

Inappropriate?Quick update on this. Now that MS are letting you download full games over Xbox Live, they are pricing those games in local currencies, so you can buy them directly using your credit/debit card, without having to mess around adding points to your account then buying stuff.

Inappropriate?Just wanted to bump this topic as it is really starting to bug me. I was just looking through the movies available to rent on Xbox Live, saw that Quantum of Solace was available and was going to rent it. The reason why I didn't was that the prices were 340MS Points for SD and 540MS Points for HD. I have no idea what MS points are worth in real money! I had to use Google and Wikipedia to find out!
Why is Microsoft putting barriers up between it's content and customers trying to buy them? It's madness!

Inappropriate?You could use this site to look up how much any amount of MS Points costs.
I don't know why MS uses scrip rather than real money, but people are quicker spending if they don't know exactly how much money something costs. Apparently even credit cards make people spend more money than they otherwise would. I'm not saying this is why MS uses Points, but this would be a commercially sound reason to.
Also content doesn't cost the same across the globe, something people complain about a lot, and MS Points make this less obvious. Then there is the fact that once you buy Points and exchance them for content, you're likely to have leftovers like you said. Now there is a chance you'll buy more Points and get some more content so the leftovers won't go to waste. MS is a business after all.
