Inappropriate? You can download this handy little program called Process Explorer http://technet.microsoft.com/pl-pl/sy...(en-us).aspx
Once you run it (it doesn't need to be installed) you need to click with the mouse right button on one of the column titles. Choose 'Select columns...'. When the window comes up, go to 'Process performance' and put a check mark next to I/O Delta Total bytes. Confirm by clicking OK button. Now, find your column titled "I/O Delta Total bytes". The first line at the top will show you the process that makes the most HDD read and write operations at the moment. You will see number of bytes being read/written at the moment. That will be the process you're looking for. Hope that helps.

Inappropriate? You can also use the built-in task manager. right-click on the taskbar and select the 'Task Manager' menu item. On the app that pops up, select the "Processes" tab. On the 'View' menu click "Select columns..." and make sure "I/O Reads" and "I/O Writes" are selected. Now you should be able to see which processes on the list are hitting your hard drive.
