One Laptop Per Child / Linux - Hotmail Issues

Comments please.

I have a new 'laptop' to a spec. that could be termed 'ONE LAPTOP PER CHILD'. This runs a version linux and the browser is based on firefox.

I've tried to log into HOTMAIL LIVE but now don't have proper functionality.

My desktop PC has a dual boot system, one hard drive withMicrosoft XP and one with linux ubuntu. When I boot from the linux hard drive and browse using firefox I again do not have full functions using HOTMAIL. No such problems have surfaced when booting from XP and using IE to browse.

Before you ask yes I have followed the prompt at log on to Hotmail to 'Up-grade Your Browser' to the latest version of Firefox. In fact it had already been up-graded BEFORE Microsoft gave the initial prompt!!!

It would be a great shame for Microsoft if the expansion of PC usage heralded by the One Laptop Per Child initiative deprived many millions of users from considering HOTMAIL as a supplier of email services.

However, if MS are trying to force none MS product users to look elsewhere for email they should keep on doing the same. There are now 'plenty more fish in the sea ' I'm glad to say.

Yours regretfully...
