Heating the desert (Poor energy distribution calculation).
Poor energy distribution calculation. Hohm estimates $14K in energy costs to heat my home and $48 to cool it, but I live in the Phoenix, AZ area (Desert Southwest). Maybe if the estimate had been 14K for cooling and $48 for heating I might understand (still wrong, but more understandable), but this imbalance in the heating-cooling ratio and so much of it in heating costs is very incorrect.

Inappropriate?Hi RobertMiller - Thanks for raising this problem with us. Wow, yes, it certainly sounds like something is not working properly. Heating the dessert shouldn't be that expensive. Can you let me know some basics about what heating system (inc year) you might have selected? I'd like to be able to repro this problem. If you would prefer to send me a screen shot of the heating section (if it's easier), you could send to hohmpriv@microsoft.com rather than post anything here.
let's get this one figured out for you - thanks again for the message.
Can you try one thing for me? Can you try refreshing your screen to see if that alleviates the odd number?
Regards

Inappropriate?hey fellow Arizonan, same deal (reported here: http://getsatisfaction.com/microsoft_...).
Just linking these topics. The hohm folk seem to be real good with the first reply but then dissapear (are they working on it? ;) )
I’m undecided

Qwijib0 - Appreciate you letting us know you are experiencing this same issue. I have not been able to reproduce this and would like to get some more information so I can figure this out and address ASAP. At a minimum, can you let me know what heating system and year installed that you selected to receive these high heating costs? I'll take as much info as you are willing to provide - if there is anything you don't want to post, you can send me info at hohmpriv@microsoft.com. Be sure to indicate it's for this thread on getsat.
Thanks,

Inappropriate?Attached is my entire heating/cooling profile. Also a repost of energy data from the other thread:
Just entered a full year of gas data-- ($405 annually) and my electricity is in as well ($929 annually), and now cooling has jumped from $8 to $11. It's a change, but not much. It thinks I spend $618 on heating which is impossible given the data and heating type (central gas, no strip) I've entered. Since my therms in the summer months are about the same (+/- 1 therm/month), I can roughly estimate the cost of therms used for heating at $164.
Thanks for continuing to look into this :)
I’m confident

Thanks for sharing this - I'll let you know what I find and if there are any other data elements I might need. :)

Inappropriate?Qwijib0,
Thanks again - I was able to take all of the data you provided me and your postal code to see what I came up with:
Are these roughly the numbers you are seeing? It might be that there is something else in the profile that is throwing the numbers off a bit. There are Hohm estimates of what you think you are spending, but you are actually much more efficient :) Another note, in cases were we don't have answers from customers, we assume a set of defaults - it's possible one of these is impacting the number. In a future release, we want to expose these defaults to customers to remove any mystery.
The good news is that I was unable to reproduce a 14K desert heating bill but I obviosuly want to uncover how this happened.
I'd still like to work through this with you since there is some possible issue underlying this. Let me know. You can reach me at hohmpriv@microsoft.com directly.
Regards
Karen
