Goodbye, Cha-ching! I'm done with you!
Due to the trial expiring today on Cha-ching desktop (it prevents me from opening the application) I set the clock on my Mac back a day just long enough to open Cha-ching and export my accounts as CSV so I can at least try to import them into another app. Now I am placing the Cha-ching in the trash, where it belongs, and you should too.

Inappropriate?Nice Drew. I can see you've tested a piece of beta software before. Because you definitely know that it works perfectly. And it seems you also know that using a piece of beta software to organize your financial life was a wise decision as well. Good on ya partner.
I’m amused

this is one of the best points

Inappropriate? While I agree that things have gone from bad to worse, Cha-Ching desktop 2.0 is still being advertised as beta software. You have not been misinformed as far as what to expect, you've only expected that which you have not been guaranteed.
I’m sticking my tongue out.

Inappropriate?David and Steven - Cha-Ching may be somewhat of an entertainment app for you guys, in the good sense that its a nice looking software that compels you to use it but you can ofcourse live without it.
For some of us, however, its a different story. Think if you're running a small and serious business and you adopt a software to depend on it, how badly your regular work gets disrupted when one fine morning you find that you can't open it anymore.
Being in beta doesn't mean it can stop working all of a sudden at its will and you cannot say a word about it. In any case, CCT hasn't been sold as beta and is directly fused to CC desktop. The problem now is not about CC being in beta but the delay from the devs' side to develop it and disregard for beta ending dates.
Even I loved Cha-Ching dearly (you can see my comments in the last months) till it came to a point where it turned into a joke. -
Well if your coming from a Business angle, why on earth would you ever use beta software in a business setting? Integrating beta software into your work environment may be one of the worst "business" decisions I have ever heard.
Also, CCT also does not require the CCD to run.
That being said, I guess the desktop beta software is worth what you paid for it, oh ya, you didn't. -
Yeah, I'd say it's on you for using what you knew was beta software in a situation where you depend on it. I'd say my original point stands. -
Inappropriate? The issue is not about who takes what decision and how good or bad it is. My decisions are mine and I know them better than an outsider. I made the point only to differentiate between your usage and my usage of CC.
The issue here is about the quality of the software and the quality of the customer support Midnight Apps has been providing, which has definitely become obvious by now. There must be a reason why even hopeful customers are turning against it lately.
If CCT didn't need CCD to run, then they should have composed their App Store description more appropriately rather than advertising about CCD beta at all and saying that "synchronization is hassle free". Why doesn't it mention something like 'CCD beta can shut down indefinitely without prior warning, and don't expect us to update it immediately because we have a crappy backup system and things can fail anyday' - before accepting the $2.99 ? -
"Being in beta doesn't mean it can stop working all of a sudden at its will and you cannot say a word about it."
Unfortunately, I think this is part of the definition of beta software.
On your second point, I'm in complete agreement that CCD and CCT should not have been linked such that Midnight Apps has to wait on outside forces in order to release their own software which they control. They did put themselves in this situation. -
Inappropriate?Steven, I just feel bad about the fact that they keep on saying the next update will be "soon", "we're working really hard", "things are rapidly progressing" etc. - everything qualitatively, but never give any specific, ie. quantitative date. I emailed them for beta software or feedback - never got a response.
As a developer this very detrimental to customers. -
I agree, their behavior in dealing with this adversity has been abysmal, and unfortunately it was their own fault in the first place. They have no excuse for the issues they've run into, but I also have to say that you have no excuse for trusting beta software as much as you say you have in this case.
I'm not defending them, and I don't think you are wrong on most accounts. Ultimately, beta software or not, they have made a lot of "soon" and "we're working very hard" comments, and it seems that none or very few of them have come to fruition. For a company that will be making software(once out of beta) that people will rely on heavily from day to day, the predicament they've gotten themselves into unacceptable. They MUST clean up their act YESTERDAY if they want to continue as a company.
Midnight Apps, do you hear me? People are walking out on you, do something. I can't support you alone. -
Inappropriate? Are you people kidding me with this "it's beta" crap? I paid $40 for the first version of this app which I would go back to using if version 2 hadn't permanently upgraded my database causing it to not be backwards compatible, and that's even if it were still available for download. Midnight App's own blog now states there is no way they can even update the existing version to extend the beta expiration date because they lost the source code! How unprofessional can one "company" be?
Who cares about the iPhone app sync which never worked properly for me anyway? Just post the newest version so I can use it without setting my clock back every time I need to launch!
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Sorry for the difficulty over the past 24 hours. The new beta is available now at this location:
