Sorting My Social Network List

How do I sort my network list?

This is what I have been looking for. Now I have a suggestion. Revise it to be able to sort the list alphabetically, or any other order we wish, please. Anytime I update the list I would like to resort it as well.

    Hi Skybits,

Thanks for your suggestion. Help me make sure I understand what you are wanting to do. The "Show all" pulldown currently allows you to filter updates by website, ie, only twitter, or only MySpace. Were you wanting to additionally sort the updates alphabetically by website, or by friend?

Thanks so much for your response. It feels special to be a part of the community. I’m a tech so here is my info to explain what I mean.

On the toolbar the "Network List" drop-down arrow does not list in alphabetical order. I would like to see a function in the “Manage Sites” area to sort the displayed list alphabetically. You could also ask other’s what creative sorts they would like to see for their list.

Is your “Show all” the same as the “Network List” I’m speaking of? I’m a tech so in programs I need to know what the function is called in order to find it. I saw the term Network List somewhere in your docs and figured that was the obvious list or profiles from the various social networks. I'll look over the docs and program again to find out where the "Show all" and filter of it are located. I don't think I saw that directly. I just saw the list of sites to add in "Manage Sites" area.

I love the PR you express in the pic and slogan. Great :)

I believe skybits must be talking about sorting the multi-site friend list in the Minggl sidebar. If I understand correctly, on the "Manage Profiles" page, you'd be able to pick the default sort order of all your friends and that would affect who shows up on page 1 in the sidebar.

Skybits, let me explain a few current features and then ask for additional info on the sort options you want.
    1) your "Favorite" friends (denoted by yellow star), always sort to the top of the current page
    2) three is a "search" field (in the MSFL sidebar) where you can type and name, tag or site name (or some of each) and find only friends that are labeled with that value
    3) there is a drop-down list just below the search field that simply does auto-searching with your most commonly used values (site names and frequent tags)

Currently the MSFL (what we call the multi-site friend list) sorts alphabetically based on the Profile name or tagline that we find on the profile at the host site. There are several problems with this including:
    1) some people create meaningless or inconsistent taglines between their variouis profiles
    2) sites differ in whether they use name, handle or tagline on the user profile so the data is not always clean for alphabetical sorts

Because of these inconsisencies between sites, we've designed the ability for our users to set a "default" sort for their MSFL but we've not yet built a UI to this. We also don't want our databases to have to sort every page, every time someone loads a MSFL, so the plan is to allow you to set your "default" sort order, and then we'll store your friends in that order and won't have to do any heavy sorting as we load each page. Current values we've designed for stored sorts are: sitename (eg facebook), name/handle, date added to MSFL, sex or age.

Is this what you're asking for and what other Sort values would you need in order to pick your "default" friend order. Keep in mind that it must be a value thats available on all the sites we support.
