Key Bank account access locked out on their website because of access from Mint
Key Bank has security features in place that lock you out of your account after it is accessed more than a certain number of times from a computer without cookies enabled. This means that if I go a week without logging into key.com directly, I'm locked out and have to call to get my account reactivated.
I talked to Key Bank's support, and they don't have a way around this. Has Mint figured out a solution?

Inappropriate?Hi oban89,
We're currently working on ways to solve this issue with our data provider. Key Bank and few other institutions follow similar methods. There is a way around this but it requires some further effort on our part. We'll update you here when we have an update to share. Thanks for reporting this and thanks for using Mint.com ! -
Inappropriate?Yeah....they are still working on it....four months later. I have cookies enabled, but delete all cookies (and temp files) when I close my browser. On around the fifth time you access your account (wiithout their cookie being there) they lock you out. It doesnt matter whether the access is 5 seconds or 5 months apart. The number that they give you to call will initially try to blame it on the user (i.e. tell you that you answered the challenge question wrong, etc.) and get snotty when you press them for what they are doing about the problem...because this is the third or fourth time they have done it to me. I have online banking with four other banks and none of them lock your account for this reason. I pity the poor sap that uses public machines (library) because he cant afford his own computer.

Inappropriate? This is still happening. I can't understand why a bank that has otherwise exemplary service keeps doing this. It seems they are discouraging online monitoring of accounts. However, I am the type that keeps a close eye on both my personal and business accounts. After speaking with these people an average of twice a week for the last two months, I'm getting angry enough to move all of my accounts. That won't be easy, considering we pay payroll from one of these accounts.

Inappropriate?Same deal as everyone else here. What I don't understand is why Mint even lists Key as being supported when clearly it doesn't work properly.

Inappropriate?I changed from Mint to Quicken Online. Quicken online seems to support it. I have been using Quicken Online now for over a month and my Key online account did lock up once. Not sure if that was related to the Quicken Online account though.
As soon as Mint fixes this, I'll move back though. Mint was far better than Quicken, but... Quicken has been working. :)
When using Mint, how long does it normally take for your Key account to get locked? I've been using quicken online and like I said, my Key account did get locked once this past month.
I’m frustrated

Probably took a day or two before my Key account got locked out. -
If it was something that happened like every other week, I would even think about going back to Mint. Every other day though is ridiculous. Do you use something else then? Quicken Online? -
To clarify, my Key account got locked out within two days after I added it to my Mint account. I haven't bothered to call and get it unlocked, so I don't know how often it happens. I really only signed up with Key to get a free iPod; it's not one of my main accounts. I still use Mint as everything else works without a problem. -
Inappropriate?I've been locked out before thru Key and it seems to be when there are too many logins in a given amount of time (3 Mint logins in one day locked me out). Since then I've logged in with Mint to access my Key and other accounts and then log into my Key account since I do billpay via Key's website. Looks like the indirect/direct login system, provided they are done closely (Mint first) keeps me from getting locked out. It seems as long as I don't get login happy at Mint, it's ok.

^-- We shouldn't even have to deal with this when other industries use SAML without a hitch. Why can't the banking industry get with the times?

Inappropriate?I agree that this problem with Mint is annoying. I've used Quicken as the alternative and get locked out only sporadically--i.e. once a month, if that. While this is annoying, it's not nearly as annoying as the once every two days or so you get with Mint. Additionally, while I agree that Mint offers a better free service, Quicken Online appears to be updating its interface to match that of Mints. I am already gratified by improved tracking of spending trends that have occurred over the past couple of months. Obviously its in Quickens best interest to match, or exceed, Mint's online service, although the online version of Quicken can only get so good, since they don't want to compromise their software sales.
Switching banks may be appropriate, but for those that don't want to do this, a Quicken product is probably preferable until/if/when Mint gets it act together.
