Mint not connecting with UFCU
There's been a "temporary issue" connecting with University Federal Credit Union since last week. I thought this might be because I tried to sign up for a Mint account during the period in which UFCU was going through a major system overhaul, but I tried logging in today, a week after system updates, and it still says the same thing. Help?

We have made UFCU bank and loan active again in Mint.com. Please note that existing Mint/UFCU users *may* see duplicate accounts in Mint.com due to complex changes made by the bank with their account schema. We're still working on eliminating duplicate accounts but should you see any duplication please "Close" or "Hide" the first UFCU account in Mint.com as a temporary work around. The fix has taken much longer than expected. Sorry for the inconvenience.
New users should not see any problems. Please post here if should you continue to experience problems with UFCU.

Hi UFCU Minters,
It's looking good. I don't have an ETA to share but it will happen. I will post here when I have an update.

Yes, we made UFCU inactive on June 9, 2009 so new users will not see UFCU available to add. Existing UFCU users will still see their account card but will no longer be able to update data and will receive errors. I have re-opened the issue with our data provider to explore alternative solutions. From my experience and based on the new authentication, UFCU will likely have to get involved to help resolve this.

Inappropriate?I have the same issue with mint not syncing their servers with UFCU's updated servers. What's up Mint? You were connected, how difficult is it to reestablish a connection?
I love Mint, but what good is the service if you cannot respond in a timely manner to maintain existing relationships with financial institutions.
Please Mint, reconnect with ufcu.org.

Inappropriate?Mint - please contact UFCU at members@ufcu.org to make arrangements for the connection between Mint & UFCU to be re-established. Our OFX server has changed as a result of our recent conversion and we would be happy to provide you with any additional information that you may need.

Inappropriate?I have contacted Mint several times. Given them a dummied up screen shot, asked for the bank to be added. Also, spoke with UFCU and they also have spoken with Mint to no avail. Mint, please help! You are ruining the customer experience and also the utility of the site that many of us have spent a year entering data into.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Unfortunately, the changes UFCU made to their authentication is not compatible with what Mint.com can support at this time. We're currently working on upgrading the multi-factor authentication user experience. I will have an update to share on UFCU in about seven weeks from the time of this post. We're sorry for the frustration and inconvenience this may cause.
-
Stephen, thank you for your reply.
I have to say this is disappointing news. Seven weeks and then all we are promised is an UPDATE! How challenging can it be to reconnect with UFCU's OFX server, they aren't Fort Knox. We've already been down more than a month. How is it that reconnecting with a Mint client takes THREE MONTHS!
What's this about a multi-factor authentication? The number of steps needed to log in to UFCU is no different than before their upgrade (UFCU—pgarret—can you comment). Stephen can you be more clear about how UFCU authentication has changed and if in seven weeks you'll have an update or a connection with Mint.
I'm surprised that Mint has put so little effort in *reestablishing* a connection with Austin's largest FCU, a FCU that serves the 52,000 students at the University of Texas in Austin, AND importantly, Austin is arguably the largest tech center outside of Silicon Valley, home to the most active tech venture capital markets in the country.
Stephan, more details please. Can't Mint do better? -
Inappropriate?Hi Larry,
We understand the frustration this is causing and the reach UFCU has in the Austin area. The specific change is that UFCU is now presenting the challenge question and answer in the form of an image. Our data provider does not support this at this time. We're currently looking at different possible solutions to this problem. I can't guarantee a resolution date at this time. Thanks for your patience in the meantime. Your voice has been heard. -
Inappropriate?HI Stephen,
Thanks for the quick reply, but now I really don't understand. Neither the login interface or login procedure has changed with UFCU's recent server update, UFCU has used an image in their login for a couple of years and it was in use when Mint was last connected to the CU. Can you please try again to connect to UFCU? I'll beta the attempt.
Thank you.

Last I checked I wasn't even presented with an image on login (do others concur). Can you please try again to connect to UFCU? I'll beta the attempt.
Thank you.

i actually have been submitting daily feedback/bug reports through mint in an effort to stimulate action. i got this piece of info back today, which seems to contradict larry's assessment. and, unfortunately, may bode poorly for our fair bank:
Dear Chris,
Thank you for contacting Mint.com.
The error code being returned indicates that our provider currently can't support the login requirements by the financial institution you're trying to add. We are, unfortunately, able to support the addition of products from that account at this time. We will remove the site from our search results soon.
Thank you,
Charmaine Silvestre

thanks VERY much for engaging us on this issue. it's been much more than we've received from various "contact us" inquiries we've put through, and with much more detail.
if you look earlier in this thread, UFCU's rep actually chimed in with contact info:

would love it if you could pass this along to the troubleshoot team. i'm actually REALLY REALLY hoping it can get resolved, as i've been using quicken.com's product, which is nowhere near as user-friendly as yours. i'd love to keep using mint, but...
thanks again for the engagement. very much appreciated.

Inappropriate? Here's UFCU's contact: UFCU's Online banking head tech (title?) is Patrick. He can be reached at (512) 467-8080, extension 22014.
He would love to work with your data provider.

Transactions that occurred during the broken connection between Mint.com and UFCU should get updated in Mint.com when we can connect again. -

That seemed to do it. UFCU updated through mint tonight when I tried. Though, weirdly, it never asked me the "new" challenge questions UFCU asked me to create during the recent switchover. It just "fixed itself." Hope this was supposed to be the way it went down.
Thanks, Stephen for dilligently tracking this down and keeping us posted. Genuinely grateful. I'll repay the favor by referring you guys onto as many people as I can. -
Inappropriate?I have tested as well and it works! Same thing with no challenge questions that Chris mentioned, but everything else works that I can see. Thanks Stephen!
-
Thanks MINT! I have been with UFCU since 1995, but I was preparing to transfer all my accounts to an institution that MINT supported. UFCU can thank MINT for retaining my accounts. -
Inappropriate? We still have a small issue with duplicating accounts and we're working to resolve. Otherwise, since we worked directly with UFCU on this, no challenge questions/answers is the new intended behavior. I will post here when everything is completely error free with regards to duplicate accounts.
I’m excited

The fix is in place, however I disabled checking/savings and loan account types because we found a bug that duplicated UFCU accounts in Mint for some users. We have one last tweak to resolve this and then UFCU users will be able to add checking/savings and loan again. I disabled to minimize the duplication problems for users adding UFCU bank and loan account types. A temporary pain for new UFCU Mint users but this minimizes the transaction data quagmire for existing UFCU Mint users who try to "re-add". Should be any day now. Sorry for the delay. -
What's your revised timeframe for re-enabling checking/savings accounts?
This is affecting a lot of people and has crippled mint.com for my family.
Please at least post an update. -
Inappropriate?Stephen - Any more word from this? It's been 2 weeks, and no update.

Inappropriate?Stephen, please let us know how this is going. We're eager for an update. Much obliged!

Inappropriate?Stephen, I promise you're going to have a raving fan for life if I can ever get Mint to work with my UFCU accounts!
I've been trying since yesterday to add my checking account and my credit card. No luck with either.
WIth the checking account, I'm never prompted for the security questions. When I enter my account number and password for web-banking, all I get is: Temporary connection error. Try again later. Which I do, with the same result. Meanwhile: I'm having no trouble connecting directly with the UFCU site.
With the credit card, I am prompted with the security questions, but these do not match the ones on the UFCU site. Again, I'm getting Temporary connection error. (Before your most recent fix, I was able to add my CC account. Now I can't get to it.)
Thanks for your willingness to stick with this. Lots of Mint's prime demographic in Austin have UFCU accounts. If we need to contact folks at UFCU, just tell us whom to call.
Much obliged! -
Speelunk, are you still having problems connecting? -
Thanks, Stephen. I'm still getting the same response. "Temporary issue connecting." I'm typing my account number and password for UFCU super slowly to insure accuracy, but can't get in. No trouble getting in through UFCU website directly. Same deal with security questions as I wrote above. Not getting prompted for the bank account, am getting prompted for the CC account. I sincerely appreciate your help!
Should I call someone at UFCU? -
Ok, thanks for the info. No, I've been in dailogue with UFCU as late as yesterday and we're waiting on our provider to fully resolve this. -
Working for me, too. Thanks! -
Inappropriate?hmm. dont know what to tell ya, then. I added the first option "university FCU," and then put in the same login info that I have to get into the actual UFCU site. good luck!
-
Inappropriate?I'm also getting the "temporary issue connecting" problem with a UFCU loan.

Inappropriate?It works now!
