FULLSCREEN MODE NOT WORKING PROPERLY!

Every time I click on "show fullscreen" the fullscreen comes up but the message "push esc. to return to normal view" will not go away preventing me from working on my mixbook within the fullscreen mode. The normal view mode is too small for my eyes and i can not work with that....can you help?
