Modest Roadmap!
Hi,
Recently people have made it clear that our Trac site could use some work to make the project look more alive. In light of that I've just updated the roadmap with some actionscript 3 milestones I hope to be working on in the next few months.
http://modestmaps.mapstraction.com/tr...
New milestones include:
These are all quite modest (naturally) and don't really involve new features or major changes to existing interfaces. Flex-related tickets have been relegated to a "wishlist" milestone with estimated completion in 2020. If anyone would like to make these things happen sooner, please get in touch :)
As well as the new roadmap, the front page of the wiki has been rearranged to give clearer links to active content. Extra information has been added to the pages about actionscript compilers, subversion and release versions. The demo compiling instructions for actionscript 3 have also been improved:

The roadmap items were prompted by some bugs that were thrown up when I started posting to our new blog:
http://blog.modestmaps.com
We got off to a slow start with the blog last year but I hope to post more this week with examples for the new CloudMadeProvider (see http://developers.cloudmade.com/ for more) and WMSMapProvider.
As always, if anyone would like to get involved with these or any other areas of Modest Maps, please get in touch here. We keep Trac for committers only because of spam issues, but we're open to contributions.

New milestones include:
- GTween integration
- improved handling of scrolling around the world for markers and projections
- improvements to copyright handling
- cleanups to map providers

Inappropriate?Awesome work RandowEtc :D
Modest Maps is a great lib and the most flexible i've found so far.
There are some vector layers in the flicker gallery, is that also related to an ongoing MM project, or maybe to a Stamen project ?

I'm currently implementing vector layers as well on top of MM, following these specs (very useful to organize his code):

Maybe it could be helpful :)
I’m thankful

Aaron (straup)'s project uses the Modest Maps python code, and the vectors come from Flickr's "alpha shapes" http://code.flickr.com/blog/2008/10/3...
For as3, be sure to take a look at the PolygonMarker code when implementing vector layers. Unless your vectors are extremely complex (in which case you'll want to render them to a bitmap) then it should do the trick. We use it in the MSNBC Hurricane maps.
As long as you get an array of locations PolygonMarker should handle the rest. Note that it can take an array of arrays of locations as well as just a simple array. -
Inappropriate?Well some could be complex and some could be simple ^^. And there will be some editing tools as well (point edition and free transform tool), text annotations and stuff like that so i made a clear structure and tried redo-ing it all.
These geometries will be both used for analysis and for drawing so i'm currently having a look at the HeatMap samples included in the MM samples. I'm gonna try this Michael Vandanike's technique and the few others lib available in as3, see which one looks the best :).
Thx
I’m confident
