New to ModestMaps and need to know about its capabilities

I recently started project with OpenLayers (www.openlayers.org) and find that Modest Maps can be as great as OpenLayers, so i need to know what Layer kind Modest Maps support? do it support WMS/WFS layer via provider like UMN Mapserver, Mapguide, GeoServer?

And how easy to create simple mapping application (zoom & pan)? Are there any application gallery/showcase for Modest Maps?
