Outpost is unable to fetch my project list from my Basecamp server.
I just downloaded the Outpost app for the iPod Touch (with latest software upgrade). When the startpage shows prompting me for my Basecamp information, I keep getting the same error message, even after rechecking and carefully submitting my information again. Here's the message I'm getting...
"Unable to Load Data
Unable to fetch project list from your Basecamp server.
Please check your credentials and try again.

We have a small bug in v.1.0 which does not always trim "https://" from the domain field when logging in. Just for everyone's information, you can simply use your subdomain in this field, so, if you're Basecamp URL is https://mycompany.clientsection.com, simply type "mycompany" in this field.

Spencer, sorry for the troubles. Just to confirm, do you have "Enable API Access" checked in Basecamp under Dashboard > Account ?

Inappropriate?I have had the API enabled for a while, but having problems logging in....
I am using OpenId for all my 37signals sites, so not sure if that would make a difference.
Would I use the long password that is supposed to be used with 3rd parties?
Thanks for you help!
I’m excited but a little frustrated!

Inappropriate?@Jon Moss:
I have both the same settings as the same problems.
Would really like to hear a solution...

It's working now! ! quitted the app en re-started it again. App started syncing my projects inmediately.
I’m thrilled

Inappropriate?I have the API enabled (it's worked with other iPhone apps) - any other work arounds? I also use openID for all of my accounts.
I’m patient

Inappropriate?Jane-
Are you using the alternative login credentials (openid server + long password hash) provided in Basecamp? -
Inappropriate?I am...I even regenerated the password to start clean.
-
Inappropriate? And you're getting the "Unable to Load Data" error? Please verify the information once more (I know those passwords are a pain to work with), and if still getting the message, try deleting the app and re-installing, which could clear any sort of database corruption. Please let me know how it goes, thanks-

Inappropriate?I was having a syncing problem as well. But, I simply quit the application and started it up again and it synced. So it appears to be storing your login credentials, but fails to see them as matching your Basecamp account upon first entering them.
I had the API enabled and was using a regular username + password (not OpenID as I've had trouble with other 3rd party apps using that). -
Inappropriate?Got it working - thanks for the help! I had put the "https" in the domain. Looking forward to using this!
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I was having this problem too, but I just tried entering my Basecamp URL without the 'https://' at the start and now it is working.
Am really thrilled with this app - it will be really convenient for me as I am a huge Basecamp fan.
The app itself looks terrific, very fluid and easy to use.
Well done Morfunk.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Oops, this looks like my bug. I trim http:// from the front of the URL automatically (try it-- it'll disappear along with any trailing / when you press return), must've forgotten to do https too.
Too many late-night coding sessions! -

Inappropriate?Just to confirm: the app has logic to remove turn 'scheme://my.domain.com/' into my.domain.com, but due to an error on my part if only kicks in if you press Return, not if you tap the next field in the list.
I've just fixed this one, so it'll be in the v1.0.1 update. -
Inappropriate?Sorry to gravedig the thread but I'm having the same issues of unable to load data.
- API is enabled in dashboard
- I've tried the following options in the server field
myurl.bascamphq.com
http://myurl.basecamphq.com
https://myurl.basecamphq.com
myurl
- In the user field I've tried:
user
email address
- Password is Basecamp password, not OpenID
- I'm admin on the account, but also tried logging in with the Account creator's details and still doesn't work.
Tried quitting, deleting and reinstalling app from store, just about anything I can think.
So, any ideas :)
I’m frustrated
-
I've just noticed that if I simply put in "myurl" in the server field, when I go to the settings pane it then has auto-filled that to become "myurl.grouphub.com" where our url is "myurl.basecamphq.com" -
Everything after the hostname part of the URL is interchangeable; they all point to the same host. Technically they might get a redirect in future (which we already handle & change prefs appropriately), but if you wanted to confirm this, you can type myurl.grouphub.com into a web browser and you'll still get to your site. -
Inappropriate?Ian- it sounds like you've taken all the right steps. What happens when you log in? Do you get a "Could not connect" error, or does it go through but just not load data? About how many projects do you have? And just to confirm, you don't use OpenID?
Thanks,
Dave -
I forgot to say thanks for your help though, sorry, it is appreciated! -
Inappropriate?Well, if it's the first time I load the app, so I'm inputting the details in the main screen (green background etc) then it gives me the same error as above,
"Unable to Load Data
Unable to fetch project list from your Basecamp server.
Please check your credentials and try again."
If I cancel that, and then open the app itself it does the spinner as though downloading, but everything comes up blank. If I go to the sync screen itself I can choose to sync, it spins for while and returns "your last sync was etc etc" as the right time, but still everything is blank.
I don't use OpenID on this basecamp account at all.
Account details:
17-20 projects, but all very new (we're just getting it set up, hence looking at outpost for the team)
Content is 99% To Do lists at the moment, little else.
I'm presuming the format that should work is
myurl.bascamphq.com
user
password
?
and for completeness it's on iPhone running latest software.
Thanks for your help. I want to be able to try Outpost out before deciding on getting if for the rest of the team, but no luck so far. -
Inappropriate?Ian, a couple thoughts: First, it certainly doesn't sound like you have the type of data to cause any sort of problem, so I'm optimistic we'll find a fix. Second, the domain field is fairly flexible -- you can actually use just the subdomain or full, with http or without. I recommend just using the subdomain. Also, Outpost will automatically append ".grouphub.com" - but the API will work using any domain, as long as subdomain is accurate. I should note, their is no ".basecamphq.com" account domain. They're typically .clientsection.com or .grouphub.com, etc.
For one more test, please try deleting the app, re-installing, and using just:
myurl
user
password
And, as one more point of curiosity, do you have SSL enabled? Shouldn't matter either way, but just wondering. Thanks- -
Inappropriate?Hi David and John
Thanks for the speedy help, shows customer service isn't a lost art :)
I'll delete the app now, but I would say with the myurl field that our subdomain was created under basecamphq.com - honest! I've been logged in to it the last couple of days, it wasn't a typo :). Perhaps it's a new thing?
SSL is enabled.
I'll delete and download and get back to you.
Thanks -
Hey Ian - when you are logged in to Basecamp - what is the URL in the address field? yoururl.(?).com/clients? -
Please do let me know. I just checked the basecamphq.com and it does work. I'll do a bit more investigating on my end. Thanks- -
Inappropriate?Me again :)
Hi David, Jane & Jim (not John, sorry!)
Well, I've got it working, but not sure how!
I deleted/downloaded the app, disabled SSL (just in case) and then it worked using the following details
user
password
myurl.basecamphq.com
I then deleted the domain in settings, and re-enabled SSL via the web, so details in settings are now:
user
password
myurl
And things were still syncing. I don't know why, or how, but it works :)
Jane - Honestly, ours is a subdomain of basecamphq.com (not sure why or how!) - however I tried logging in to myurl.grouphub.com in Firefox and that worked too. If you want I can email you the URL to see, but prefer not to post publically (can you PM / email through here?).
It took around 10 mins to sync the first time over a wireless network, which seemed long for what I'd expect to be a "simple" set of projects, but so far at least it works. I'll keep it going over the next few days and report back.
Thanks so much for the help, you've certainly restored my faith! -
Ian, so glad we got things sorted out. Once you've had a chance to use the app and such, would you consider giving us a review in iTunes? Thanks- -
Inappropriate?Hi I'm also having this problem.
I have version 1.0.2 and I am unable to sync.
I get the error "Unable to load data. Unable to to fetch project list from your Basecamp server. Please check your credentials and try again."
I've tried the following things...
Disabling SSL
API is active
Deleting the application (via iPhone) then redownloading via iTunes on Mac.
I've tried my subdomain as:
sevenupcan
sevenupcan.basecamphq.com
and
https://sevenupcan.basecamphq.com
But alas I am having no luck.
Any thoughts?
-
Inappropriate?Sevenup-
I believe there's a bug in 1.02 which can't get the data if one uses the full domain starting with "https://" — if you tried this first, you should probably try deleting the app, reinstalling via iTunes, then using just the "sevenupcan" as sub-domain. Also, are you using OpenID? Thanks-
