When I turn it on I get a black screen with a strange 2-line code and then it turns off completely.

Inappropriate?Sounds like your in Bootloader mode, if the phone is still under warranty you can call motorola 1800-BUY-MOTO or you can call your service provider and see what warranty options you have...
