Battery compatible cranksets
MC, please provide a list of cranksets which clear the Battery's swingarm!
So far Saint and FSA don't work. Saint 09 needs a 2.5mm spacer on the non-drive side to clear. Leaves less than ideal overlap on the axle/non drive crank arm.
Thanks,
Gus

Inappropriate? Not every company has sent us cranks to test so we don't have a list yet.
Here is what I can say from what we have tested here at MCUS:
The Truvativ (www.sram.com) below are currently working on the Battery's here.
-TV Holzfeller DH 170mm c -set 36t use Howitzer BB
-TV Hussefelt 1.1 DH 170mm 36t Blk c-set
(BB required) Truvativ Howitzer Team BB 56mm chainline 68/68E/73/73E
For you Cromoly guys Profile Racing (www.profileracing.com) offers a 6 7/8" spindle for use with there 48 spline crank arms.
Race Face (www.raceface.com) Evolve DH (see pic) also worked.
Aerozine (www.aerozinebike.com) is going to test fit some soon and I look forward to posting results.
Battery riders unite. Tell us what you got :)

Inappropriate? Will let you know on the Race Face Atlas FR - Silverfish the UK importer think it has the widest Q Factor.

Inappropriate?I've tried to get some ideas out of shimano, but AFAIK there is no difference between old and new ('09) Saint... which is odd as we never had any problems fitting them to the bikes...?
Hmmn... needs more investigation to be sure!
I’m confused by changing crank specs

Inappropriate?Yeah I noticed that Phil Saxena's has old Saints on. The 09's were just ok with a spacer on the non drive side (shouldn't be any with 73 shell and chain device) but then the overlap was reduced on the non drive crank/spline interface. Not been a problem so far but then I'm not going big lol. It's as if it needs an 83mm BB shell!
Hopefully the Atlas FR's will be ok - I will be converting "the Rev" to a dual ring up front!
Thanks for your help guys. Let you know how we get on with the Atlas FR's when they arrive.
I’m wishing there were more chairlifts in Scotland!

Inappropriate?I see your view on the 83mm BB but I think that would adversely effect the chainline.
I’m wondering ... If your working on your day off is it a day off or are you working.
The company says
this answers the question

Inappropriate?Well, an update guys. First off this has been a MAJOR pain in the ass. I noticed in the pinkbike review they also had to run a spacer on the non drive side to clear the swingarm - saint cranks.
I ditched the Saints onto the Shockwave as I couldn't convert them to 22/36 (specific crank sets for single or double chainrings, v strange!)
The Atlas set up didn't work at all.
Got hold of a Truvativ Gigapipe 73e x 128 ISIS BB - used with Race Face Turbines then a North Shore DH. Chainline was dire but at least I had clearance non drive side. Plan was to then space chainrings inboard using alloy spacers/longer bolts - Wheels Manufacturing do these. Instead bought a Truvativ 73e x 118 ISIS - big problem - back to hitting the non drive side swingarm. Tried with a set of FSA ISIS cranks that had a massive Q-factor; cleared the swingarm but inner chainring was rubbing the CD back plate - would have needed tabs grinding off. This set up would have worked with a single ring up front.
So finally, the day before going to the Alps, I got a Saint double/bash 83mm BB and the Race Face spacer kit to convert 83mm cranks down to 73/68. (This is made specifically for people with swingarm clearance probs and also for bikes with 73 shell but 150 hub spacing to sort out the chainline problem that causes). Success at last, chainline still not great in the middle ring but chainring spacers will help this.
Outside of the non drive side swingarm is def about 5mm further out than drive side and it's this that has caused the problems. I need to know how/where to make specific measurements to clarify this issue.
The double set up is as follows (pics to follow)
Blackspire now do a Stinger with the e-type front mech mount (E-13 also do a DRS backplate that holds an etype mech but it's scary expensive!) It's about £35, bargain. Needed a wee bit of Dremel action on the front mech just to rotate it forward to give more tyre clearance as I'm on Fire 2.4's with big tread blocks!
Problem solvers bolt on cable stop mounted on the seat tube.
front shifter and cable!
Bob's your uncle a Battery that can be ridden back up hill.
NOW I can say I bloody love it!

Inappropriate?Oh, by the way, I've said from day 1 I'm not target audience for the Battery but what an awesome bike for technical, switchback laden, rocky, rooty, sketchy, singletrack downhills! So easy to manual and pop the front wheel off wee drops/roots etc. Some of the bigger bikes just couldn't deal with the tight stuff.
And of course lots of nut room!
I’m singletrackin!
