san andreas dna shock lengths
Hi, I have a DNA and want to use a fox float RP23 7.875 (200mm) with 2" stoke a friend gave me. Is this okay? Should I push the VPS back to slacken the head angle and lower the BB when using this longer shock? thanks!

Inappropriate?I used a 200x50 air can on mine (2nd hand and was listed as a 190 on ebay!) and it felt fine, just play around with the VPS until you're happy. I actually like a fairly steep HA as I ride mainly slower techy stuff rather than baws oot downhill!

Inappropriate?thanks kiltedskier, I put just mounted the shock and went for a ride. I'm amazed by the difference in the handling of the bike. I was running a DHX 5 coil, which is a great shock in terms of sensitivity however with the spring it's a full kg heaver!
I've started doing 100k rides and races with my friends, so you can imagine what a difference a full kg will make after 90km!
The ride feels significantly faster and more nimble. My only complaint is even once the sag is set up I find the shock much easier to bottom out than the DHX. It's got the least amount of factory compression. I might have to get it turned to give me more bottom out resistance. -
Inappropriate? That's a problem with those shocks - such massive tuning differences which makes buying them aftermarket or second hand a nightmare. Bought the older version to try and tame the SLiX bobbing and it didnt make much difference. Then tried the same model on a Kona and the ProPedal lever practically locked it out! Need to get mine back to Mojo (Fox UK) to increase the ProPedal damping.

Inappropriate? That's the beauty of the DHX shocks, so much user adjustability to get the suspention right, but duuble the weight for the DHX air.. I think I'll get it pro tuned by fox - they'll add the 2010 boost valve which is awesome on my other shock, once it's all set up I won't have to touch it.

Inappropriate?I had a DNA and used this sizing in my air shock to match the overall length (the feel of the bike and BB height) of the slightly longer travel coil shock. If you only have or need one shock the the 7.5 will give you a slightly lower BB. You may find the longer travel position will create too much leverage for an xc shock. Play with it - that is the cool thing about the DNA. I miss the longer super smooth travel and light weight of the DNA, but MC provided great warranty service with a fury at a very reduced cost for the DNA even though it was bought from the old owners and a shop that was no longer in business (Ridden in Dh race series and epic xc). NOTE: John is a patient saint and a blast to deal with

Inappropriate?I've sent mine in to be PUSH turned. The guys said they can increase the mid stroke compression and change the valving to increase the bottom out resistance - make it feel more like the DHX I know and love but be only 200g. Can't wait to get it all up and running. I love the super smooth DNA as well, I just hope the main frame lasts for a few more years! I guess there had to be some trade off having such a light long travel frame!
