The New San Andreas Classic.
I'd like to see the new San Andreas, come in a monochromatic paint scheme.
I also think MC should consider limiting the travel. The DHS is a little long legged.

Inappropriate?Absolutely - this idea of throwing longer shocks onto the San An resulted in really negative feedback in the UK press - even on the standard version. It started out with a 140mm i2i shock before the VPS mount was launched. A 152/31 mm shock gives just under 4inches of travel and the bike is a rocket ship - good BB height and HA all of which went too high/steep with the longer shocks. 100-130 fork works really well.
Ideally we need to bring the pivot point back inline with the middle ring - again remember the San An was designed with 24/36-38/46-50 chainrings not 22/32-34/42-44 - look at where the pivot point is on the Orange 5 (one of the best single pivot bikes around) and even the DNA was much closer.
I've ridden my mates later San An with VPS and a 165/38 shock and I find it too high and the HA too steep. I know I'll get flamed for this lol

Inappropriate?I agree with Gus' points.
I'd like to see the bike come with a good 6.5" (165mm) eye to eye shock.
A Swinger or Rocco probably.
It could keep the current shock mount on my 06 that way, and have a lot of adjustment range.
I don't mind if it has a higher BB height, like 14.5" (368mm) that is great for the riding I do, but the current 15.25" (387mm) is a bit to high.
I must admit, I can pedal over some pretty high things. :D
I still want it to be a trail bike, just a little more nimble in the corners.
Maybe actually come out with a large, that has a 1" longer top tube. I can make mine work with 22.5", but It takes a longer stem.
I'm 6' 1" .
I must admit though, the shorter TT length, does make the bike more nimble in tight single track.
Maybe reintroduce the "R" moniker. That's retro.
Polished San Ans anyone? -
Inappropriate?I agree..I'd like to see a monochromatic San An with a lower BB.and lower overall stand over height.
Those were the only things holding me back from buying one : )

Inappropriate? In fact just take it back to the original 2" travel. The worlds burliest "soft tail"! What was the old MBA quote about the San An - The heart of a jetfighter and the soul of a junkyard dog? Always loved that description. Ok 3-4" travel then ;-) Low and fast, the ultimate trail centre bike.
Re build the DNA with 5-6" travel only, I know I know same as the Fury but it's too tall for me and doesn't "look" like an MC in my eyes. (Flamed again lol).
"I must admit, I can pedal over some pretty high things. :D" What, cars?!
I’m being tongue in cheek. Or am I??

Inappropriate?I figure a Classic, with a 120mm fork and about 110-120mm rear travel would be cool.
That would allow the VPS a wide range of adjustment.
If someone needs a slacker head angle, they can install a 140mm fork. -
Inappropriate?Ok, a little late to this post, but Eric makes a good point... the original SA was designed with 2" travel front and rear, but as travel grew so did the acceptable BB heights over the years and the SA's original frame was modified to provide more travel with a higher BB too. However, as it got higher, it became more of a design issue that we addressed in different ways over the years, however a new re-design of the frame was always on the books to do but never found the time. That being said, as components changed too, with smaller chain rings, it made the problems of performance even worse, so we started to incorporate the changes into the new frames.
The SA, in my opinion, needs a re-design...

Wasn't the DNA a redesign? Go here to see a thread about you doing it again! http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php... -
Yes, the DNA was a redesign, but not by a MC employee, but by a clever subcontractor designer that did frame designs for Santa Cruz bikes that Kinesis hired to do the work. I liked some of the new design features and some of them scared me as to the strength of the new design. Monocoque structures can be very sensitive to loading and small changes of stress concentrations that causes failures... Not a bad start, but not a home-run either in my book. RR. -
The DNA's are breaking right and left, which prettty much proves what you are saying! -
Inappropriate? You could not be more right Robert and hearing it straight from you is great! At 6" 3" and running a platform shock, I don't have too many issues with the old girl other than the slight issue about climbing back on if you off on tight steep goat tracks.
Krien and I have discussed the pro's and cons of the original design and aside from some current testing failures we realised that the only way to bring it back was to re-design it from the ground up. We have it slated on the books but are not rushing into it.
I’m happy

Inappropriate? The SA could and should be a 5" travel bike. It is to heavy to be anything less. It could easily be redesigned to look the same or have a little more modern look and have modern geomety.
-
Inappropriate?I don't know Shawn. I've learned that people develop prejudices based on looks.
Even with a redesign, people will still see a DNA waiting to break.
People have developed a prejudice to monocoque frames over the years.
They associate them with:
Trail noise.
Dept. store bikes.
Unified Rear Triangle bikes. (Mantras, Y - bikes etc.)
Breaking.
Tis sad but true.
I've even developed my own dislike, reactions to crosswinds here in the desert.
I'd like to see some version of the "Classic" come back just for nostalgia.
I don't however, think it would make the company's bottom line go up significantly.
Then again, you never know. If it's done right, it just might take off.
