"locate link browser" error on XP with Firefox as default browser
A not very computer savy friend says she is now getting a ""locate link browser" error when clicking on a URL in email. I believe she has Firefox set as her default browser. Is there a Firefox specific fix? I found Microsoft's recommendation, which as you can guess is to associate URL file types with IE.

Inappropriate?I think it's not a Firefox problem, it's Windows problem. You can suggest to you friend to check what is the default browser actually set at the moment. In order to do that, you need to click on Control Panel, then choose Add/Remove programs. Once the window opens on the left side panel choose Set Program Access and Defaults. There you can choose a configuration profile. The best thing is to choose the Custom profile and define default programs. Right at the top you will have a place to define your default browser.

Yes, and there are other methods to set your default browser if that one doesn't work. See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Default_browser -
Inappropriate? This is happening with Firefox on my Vista machine as well. FF is the defaut browser, and when an email link is clicked a "Link Browser" screen opens. don't know why, but it is damned annoying.

Follow the link I provided in the comment to norbiq's post. It should help. -
Thomas, that worked for me. Thanks. -
Inappropriate? There's a support article setting firefox as the default browser does not work.
One question: Did you update Firefox, windows, or security software, right before the 'error' started to occur? This is a problem for a few people, and so they're trying to track it down.
