[Ubiquity] add-to-calendar command problem
Hi,
Sorry if the problem has already reported. I've just installed Ubiquity 20min ago...
When i try to use the add-to-calendar command, i have a popup that tells me the event is added, and then, nothing is added in my Google Calendar :S
Anyway, Ubiquity is a very good idea and i may use it more, i just need to add a few commands i may use a lot.
Keep the good work !

Good news, everyone. We've figured out what the problem was and fixed it. In the process, we also added some new features to the command (like better creation confirmation, as well as refreshing all open calendar pages).
We will be releasing an updated version of Ubiquity soon. But, for now, you can fix the problem by subscribing to my command feed. This will replace the built-in "add-to-calendar" with the fixed version.

Inappropriate?Same here. And I don't know how to specify what date you want to add the event to... :S
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?I don't neither, but even the "add lunch with Dan tomorrow" does not work.
But! Ubiquity reads correctly my Calendar. I put something before for sunday, and when i try a "check-calendar sunday", i got my appointment there. -
Inappropriate?Same here. Nothing works for adding appointments—not even "Lunch with Dan". Ubiquity is able to pull pre-existing appointments, though. Does any one of you perhaps use a non-English gcal (mine's Danish), and could this be part of the problem?
I’m confused, and guessing wildly.
-
Inappropriate?Same for me. Annoying, is it possible that it's because the calendar isn't public?
-
Inappropriate?Jepp, same here. German Google Kalendar... :) But great App anyway. Thumbs up!
-
Inappropriate?Same problem here.
-
Inappropriate?I don't even get the popup telling me the event is added. Yes I'm logged into my google account. Yes my calendar is public. But, I have about 8 public calendars - maybe Ubiquity needs a way to be told which calendar to add the event to? I thought it would use my default, but no.
Is there any possibility the problem is related to Flash 9 settings? I keep getting a message about allowing ubiquity to take some action, saying I have to enable in my Flash settings, but when I click to edit the flash settings I get no result & the problem always comes back. Meh.
I’m confused & befuddled
-
Inappropriate?I've got, all in all, 9 calendars, 3 of them are public. But the date is not added to one of them...
-
Inappropriate?Hey All.
Yep, at some point it seems to have been broken. I'll take a look into it. I'm really sorry about that!
I’m frustrated

Thanks for the reply and update :D -
Inappropriate?I need to echo the praise about ubiquity. It really is awesome indeed. Second, this fix does fix my problem with the add to calendar feature, however, there is no confirmation. So, events are added to my calendar, but I need to refresh the google calendar in order to see them.
This isn't a big deal, but I just wasn't sure what kind of confirmation you said this would feature.
Thank you for working on this very helpful product.
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?Wow, that was fast Service..... thanks a lot, it works on my system.
But.... it generates an event only in one of my calendars, the first one. Is there any possibility to get an event to other calendars? Like :
add-to-calendar (calendar) (event)
:D Diceman
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?hi!
i tried out this new command but only get
Ubiquity Notification
Error parsing the event. TypeError: json.match(/\\76(.*?)'/) is null
please help, thx
edit: used command: add lunch with joe tomorrow -
Inappropriate?Aza, actually, your command list does not make my 'add-to-calendar' work either...
I'll wait for the fixed version :-) -
same here. However, if I'm actually *on* the google calendar page, it does work. But that's it. -
Inappropriate?Aza, this also did not fix the issue for me. When I try add-to-calendar I get a notification that the event was added, but when I go and look, there is no new event. It fails whether I am browsing a random web page or my Google calendar page. :(
I’m bummed
-
Inappropriate? Also, after adding your command list, I am no longer able to use up/down arrow keys to select commands in Ubiquity
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?Ooh, wait - it appears there is simply a time delay. It added the event after all - when I'm on the Google calendar page anyway. Still cannot use my up/down arrows anymore.
I’m glad it worked, missing my arrow keys
-
Inappropriate?Nowhere can I find the syntax for the Add-to-calendar command.
Isn't a syntax dictionary the first element of a command line interface?
I’m stupified by the lack
-
Inappropriate?HELP! Add support for Google calendar for Google Apps.
I’m wishing for Google Apps support
-
Check out the topic "Ubiquity does not work with google apps for domains". -
Inappropriate?Alright. Second try at making the command more robust. It now gives a little more help in the preview and gives better indication when Google Calendar doesn't understand your input.
Let me know if it doesn't work?
I’m unsure
-
Inappropriate?P.S., I've changed the http://azarask.in/verbs to include the changes. If you have already subscribed to the commands, you should get the updates immediately :)
I’m silly
-
Inappropriate?I get an Ajax error notification. It pops up and goes away before I can make a detailed note. Where are these errors logged, please? Thanks for the syntax example: I think you mean
add-to-calendar "3pm lunch with Myk and Thunder"
Some people will inevitably assume that the just typing the sentence that is in quotes wil generate the calendar entry. (After all Google appears to be reading my Gmail to prompt for appointments.)
I’m unedified
-
Inappropriate?Actually "add 3pm lunch with Myk and Thunder" will work just fine. Ubiquity is smart enough to know what you mean :)
-
Inappropriate?OK. I typed in
"add renew cell phone minutes 28 October 2008"
and got an ajax error notification which went away before I could make note of it.
Same question about where are errors logged.
I’m confus-a-tated
-
Inappropriate? At the moment, those ajax error notifications aren't logged anywhere. They should be, though :)
I just tried that exact command and it worked for me. Are you sure that you are logged into Google Calendar, and are not using Apps? -
Inappropriate?I don't have Apps (the latency over my previous broadband connection Hughesnet satellite make me crazy). I just added the Calendar "gadget", "widget", whatever to my iGoogle page expressly for this trial of Ubuiquity.
I’m waiting for that error logging
-
Inappropriate?A quick-flick-of the-wrist screen capture saved the following Ubiquity Notification,
"An exception occurred while running ajaxGet_onReadyStateChange().TypeError
A second notification to the right of the first one read:
"Unexpected Return Value"
I’m faster than a speeding notification
-
Inappropriate? When I add anything with an '&' to a calendar event, the toaster pop-up confirmation in the corner shows the HTML equivalent (it still is correct on the calendar, but I just thought I'd report it as well)
I’m unconcerned

Inappropriate? In another one of those underdocumented features, it is apparently necessary to go through the registration process before Calendar will accept input from Ubiquity -- not a Ubiquity problem.
It was also not clear that clicking on the title bar activated the calendar, what with buttons used for other functons. The registration process also seemed unnecessary since defaults were all filled in.
Anyway, thanks for considering my problem. Maybe that error message will be useful to someone else who expects a little explicit hand-holding with the GUI-du-jour style of interface on these gadgets.
I’m grrrrrr-rateful
-
Registration process? Do tell. -
Inappropriate?Oh, rats. I checked "this solves the problem for the wrong comment"..
I’m astrally projected
-
Inappropriate? It would also be nice if there was a syntax to add to a particular calendar by name...also can you invite folks to an event via a command ?
-
Not yet, but there certainly could be. -
Inappropriate?Re: registration. It is not sufficient to simply click on "Add Calendar" from the "Add stuff" selection and then start using the calendar with Ubiquity. The first time you click on the calendar title bar, you are asked to fill out a form (this is a brief registration process). Mostly, you just confirm what is there. It is a little ominous that it "knew" my first initial, which I rarely use. Anyway, if you already use the calendar, you probably didn't even notice this one-time-only step.
I never used it before and tried to go straight to adding things with Ubiquity and got an error message.
I’m informative
-
Inappropriate?Adding an event to a day other than today or tomorrow doesn't seem to work. I have tried switching up my syntax a little, but basically something like "squash with Dan on Tuesday 3pm" will enter the event "squash with Dan on Tuesday" at 3pm today (provided it's not yet 3pm) or tomorrow (Monday) (if 3pm is already past). Same goes for "Squash with Dan 3pm Tuesday" or "Tuesday 3pm squash with Dan"
Is anybody else having this problem? Even better—does someone perhaps have a solution?
Thanks all.
I’m optimistic

Silverspur, you just need to use google calendar's syntax for creating events. The quick add box is what ubiquity uses. I haven't had a problem adding events. Are you sure the events aren't showing up? I have to refresh my calendar each time and the event is there. -

Netdiva. Thanks for your reply. The events do show up. What I can't figure out is how to add an event, say Friday, rather than today. I have no idea how to do this with the quick-add box either. In both cases, the day or date I indicate seems to be interpreted by Gcal (and Ubiquity) as part of the event - whether or not I use quotation marks around the event itself. I have tried gCal's help pages, but to no avail. I'd be grateful if you could tell me how you schedule something for lunch next friday, not lunch tomorrow.
Again - thank you for taking the time to reply. -
Inappropriate?I figured out what my problem was. In order to spare others some grief, I'll post it here.
The problem, and fortunately the solution, is quite simple. I am living in a non-English speaking country (Denmark), and the Gcal quick-add feature is only available in English (US or UK) versions of Gcal. In other words, if I want to use Ubiquity to add events to gCal, not only do I have type up the event in Ubiquity in English, I also have to set my google calendar to use an English language interface.
This can be very easily done in the google calendar settings accessed at the top right of the calendar screen. Set the language to either UK or US English, and everything works flawlessly. It's pretty dam'n cool to add events to your calendar via Ubiquity, by the way :-)
I’m feeling stupid for not realising this sooner

Thanks!
That's really sad it does not work in non US/UK versions. -
Inappropriate?fantastic project... still getting error
"an exception occured while running ajaxget_onreadystatechange().typeerror: parsegoogleJson(json) is null"
am running 0.11
subscribed to Aza's command feed
believe i am using google calendar (and not apps... though i confess i'm not frighteningly sure what the difference is)
Am using US English
Quick Add is working in my google calendar account
cheers!
I’m happy to be the idiot that forces the user experience
-
Inappropriate?umm... that is I'm still getting the errors when i
add 10pm lunch with dave -
Inappropriate?Just wanted to say that everything seems to be working fine for me now :)
Thanks !!!
I’m thankful
