A micro-economy for the Addons site?
As an extension developer, I'd very much like to see the ability for an economy to develop around the Add-ons site (even for sandbox items). As a number of sites are doing now, open source projects allow paid services to be associated with a project (the opportunity to take donations, for users to make paid offers to the pool or an individual). I'd also especially like to see the ability for a developer to offer to develop something or work on something if pledges for a certain amount can be given.
I think the great success in participation that Firefox Addons have garnered could be amplified if participation could be extended to would-be small-scale patrons who'd like to see interesting features implemented and made available, or to corporate or other sources of funding who come across a trusted developer and good idea which they'd like to see implemented, or make their own request for a particular tool.

Inappropriate?Well, as it is now, it seems there really is no need for addon bounties (quite enough of them already). Of course, that's not stopping someone from making a separate site that they promote where users submit addon ideas and others make pledges.

Inappropriate?Well, I can understand if Mozilla has other priorities, but I don't think it's fair to say there are enough of them. Usually the requester decides what they feel is a need! If you indicated sites that were already dedicated to this, then you'd have a point, but even then I might not have been familiar with it. Besides, you've obviously already got a regular job! ;) (I've actually got work on developing an extension for now, but my interest is to have a dedicated forum for making proposals in areas I'm already working and interested.) Anyways...

Inappropriate?I'm not an employee, for some reason the site shows employee when you're marked Employee, and when you're marked Official Rep. Apparently the idea that a company might outsource some of their GSFN work to people familiar with the project but not employed by the company has not crossed the minds of the Get Satisfaction developers.
Anyway, I looked into this further to see if someone had made an addons.mozilla.org feature request for bounty, reward, ideastorm, or brainstorm... and they're working on brainstorm!
So, while there's no monetary system involved, there is a brainstorm site coming it looks like. You're free to file a bug in the server software->addons.mozilla.org component for an enhancement of your bounty system. That will make your request official.3 Comments

Brett, I've seen your comments on bugzilla for a year now (as in, you have some year old comments). How come you haven't picked up that you don't need to post the full url to a bug in the comments? "bug 441219" does the same thing as the full url you posted in comment 1 on that bug. In addition, to refer to a specific comment, you can type "bug 441219 comment 1". The more you know.
