Inappropriate? Please give as much detail as possible about what connection error messages you get.

When I try to open a tinyurl link or the website http://www.tinyurl.com/ I get the following message:
Connection Interrupted
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

Inappropriate? From a search, two solutions are mentioned:
"Try disabling active web scanning components in your anti-virus program... Mine was AVG Search Shield component."
and
- In firefox, type: "about:config" without the quotes in the address bar
then, type in "ipv6" in the top filter bar
if the value for network.dns.disableIPv6 is "false" double-click that line to change the value to "true"
Other comments point to older routers not in bridging mode, and recently installed malware/spyware scanners. -
I tried those two suggestions with no results. Is this a problem specific to Firefox? Somebody must be able to use tinyurl without shutting off their antivirus, not really an acceptable workaround. -
Just the web-scanning components. Firefox 3 already sends anything downloaded to the anti-virus app to be scanned anyway. -
Well I tried turning off the web-scanning component but it still wouldn't open. Can anyone with Firefox use tinyurl? -
Works fine here, you might want to ask your ISP or workplace if they are blocking tinyurl for "your safety" or something. -
I'm at home. It's not an ISP problem. There has to be a Mozilla issue. I'll try switching to a different browser. -
Inappropriate? Please do let us know if it works fine in another browser or if it shows the same problem as well, that's a very important clue to determining the problem!

Ok, I went back into my anti-virus program and deactivated spy-site blocking. This did the trick. I had been able to use tinyurl in the past in Chrome, but I must not have had this setting at that time. Now I can access the website and I assume the tiny urls will start to work for me. -
Inappropriate?sounds good! Thanks for letting us know what worked for you. Please update us if anything changes or the problem comes back.
