character encoding issues

On my 24in iMac Firefox 3.0.3 the character encoding is now working correctly... other machines it is working correctly. When I switch to user defined, everything looks right... but the normal viewing when I refresh the page, it goes back to encoding font sizes improperly and the font sizes play with the css assigned to divs. Any wonders, ideas, or suggestions?
