Default shortcut on Linux (Alt+Space) conflicts with GNOME) shortcut
Alt+Space is the default shortcut on Linux, but it conflicts with GNOME's (Metacity's) command to activate the window menu.
As far as I know, Ctrl+Space would be a valid default on Linux as well (unless it conflicts with something else I don't know of).

I have this problem, too!
Tell me when someone solves it.

The company is working on this problem.

Inappropriate?Agreed, I immediately switched it to Ctrl-Space on both my (Ubuntu) computers.

this solves the problem

me too...but it's not that of a problem -
Inappropriate? There are a lot of Mac users at Mozilla Labs, so problems that are specific to Linux (or Windows) tend not to get noticed or fixed as fast.
Ubiquity could really use some contributors who are full-time Linux users... hint hint!
I'm probably going to go back to Ubuntu on my next home computer, so when that happens I will have a lot of motivation to fix problems with Ubiquity on Linux and GNOME.
I’m sad
-
This is me contributing as a full-time Linux user. ;) -
Inappropriate?P.S. Aside from the hotkey issue, how is it working for you on Ubuntu?
-
Fine so far, a little slow, but that could be my computer. Keep your eyes peeled for more comments. :) -
Inappropriate?works very well .. a few commands don't seem to work. still trying it out. I've hotkeyed to alt-q since it's more natural for me.
I've made some posts about things I've found etc etc. just wish we had decent bandwidth to get the same response times :P
waiting 30 seconds for "map" command to load the map is not fun :P
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Alt+Space didn't work for me, but I discovered Ctrl+Alt+Space works out the box.
Haven't come across any other problems (I'm on Hardy Heron) and have managed to create some commands using the command-editor.
-
it didn't for me. unfortunately -
Inappropriate?I'm using it on Ubuntu Hardy and Debian and works fine. But i use Firefox versions downloaded from Mozilla site.
-
Inappropriate?I have been thinking about this, too while using it on Ubuntu.
-
Inappropriate?Sorry I gave the wrong link, apparently we're not using Bugzilla yet. If you want it to be worked on, submit it here.

Ticket filed: http://labs.toolness.com/trac/ticket/176. One thing I didn't note here that I noted in the bug is that Ctrl+Space can be used to activate SCIM (to switch input methods, if I recall). I think it's used by people who want to type in two character sets (e.g. Latin and Chinese). -
Inappropriate?I simply switched to ctrl+alt+space. This works better because I use ctrl+alt+arrow to move between my 9 grid of workspaces.
I’m satiated
-
how do you mean? -
Inappropriate?Alt+Space is a problem for Windows too as it invokes the context-menu for the present window. So the next best suggestion is Win+Space? This is my standard at present
I’m confident
-
This suggestion is about Linux. Please stick to a separate topic. -
Inappropriate?I think the default on windows is ctrl + space, am i wrong?
As for the ctrl + alt + space being default, i think this is too much pressing. People can be a little scared of that. -
especially for people who associate it with ctr+alt+del -
Inappropriate?Yep, but I use U-b on both windows and Linux. So I usually keep the shortcut same on both the machines.
I’m confident
-
My suggestion is to bring Linux's shortcut in line with Windows'. Even though it's for a different primary reason (conflict with an existing shortcut), it would have the effect of making them the same.
