Troubleshooting Ubiquity Interface Problems
Variants of this bug keep being reported, so I am putting a standard response in one place so I can point people to it.
Ubiquity sometimes exhibits strange behavior where it is still installed but you cannot pull up either the command entry interface or use it from the context menu. This is a known bug in Ubiquity.

The first step in troubleshooting any Ubiquity problem is to use the reset feature found under "Troubleshooting Ubiquity" in the help section. Type "help" into Ubiquity or go to about:ubiquity. Be sure to save the URLs to resubscribe to your command feeds and save any commands you have in the command editor before you do this.
If that doesn't work, this problem is usually solved by installing the beta if you were using the release version, and the release version if you were using the beta.

If this does NOT solve your problem, please post a NEW problem in Get Satisfaction, as this is apparently not the problem you are having.

Inappropriate?Flipflopping back and forth from BetaPre29 to Release.1.8 didn't solve the problem, but uninstalling, then manually deleting the three ubiquity-related files[1] in ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/*profile*.default/ then reinstalling .1.8 has got things working again, at least for now.
No idea if this is an intelligent move, but nothing else recommended worked. All settings were reset to defaults, and I'm pretty sure I lost all custom subscribed to commands. (I mostly use Ubiquity for faster google searching and tweeting so not a big deal for me.)
[1] ubiquity_ann.sqlite, ubiquity_skin_memory.sqlite, ubiquite_suggestion_memory.sqlite.
for clarity: Path is on OS X. *profile* is a string specific to your machine, it doesn't actually say "profile".
I’m happy it is working again.

Thanks Jacob, this is helpful info. Glad you got it working! -
Inappropriate?nothing seems to be working for me, uninstalling reinstalling, flip floping between the versions along with deleting the files in the profile.
Ubiquity gives the same problem if I reinstall Firefox as well.
Without ubiquity I feel handicapped.
I’m confused and frustrated

ok, I have ubiquity working now!! I don't usually shutdown my laptop, I just send it to hibernate. On a restart of the laptop ubiquity now pops up just fine!
Phew! -
Inappropriate? You can always use ubiquity's reset page (it will delete all your commands and etc) - but if you experience something after a big update, you can use it.

I’m confident

Thanks Fernando, I've edited the first post to reflect your advice. (Actually, Eric from Get Sat did - Thanks Erik!) -
Inappropriate? In general the gUbiquity is Null error doesn't respond to the reset page, but it's definitely the first troubleshooting step.
I’m happy!

Inappropriate? These are the troubleshooting steps you should take if you are having problems when you upgrade to Firefox 3.5.
