Firefox 3.0.9 crash, sudden and constant
I have been using Firefox for years and 3.0.8 with NO problems until yesterday, when it began to crash each time after about 3-5 minutes of use. I unistalled and reinstalled with no remedy. I updated to 3.0.9 and it still crashes. I have run 3.0.9 in SAFE MODE and it still crashes within minutes.
I absolutely don't want to use Explorer (die borg) and the IT support staff has recommended switching to Chrome. Does anyone have a remedy to prevent the crash??
Thanks.

I thought this morning, oh great 3.0.9 is out, maybe it will solve my headaches. No such luck. Yes I've created a new profile also. -
Inappropriate?I have been having this same problem. Constant crashing. I have reinstalled Mozilla 3 times, both versions 3.0.9 and 3.0.8, deleted all settings/bookmarks etc in profile. Still crashing.
I checked event viewer, getting this message:
Faulting application firefox.exe, version 1.9.0.3384, faulting module msvcr80.dll, version 8.0.50727.3053, fault address 0x0004f029.
Any suggestions. This is getting VERY frustrating
Thanks -
Do as MrMichael did and load about:crashes in the URLbar and copy the IDs like he did, thanks. -
Same problem. Just that I used to get crash reports - they're gone too now. And I haven't changed anything in the settings. I'm no computer wizz at all! O always download upgrades and the problem has been there after the last 2 or 3 updates. Crash report stoppped after the last update just the other day or so. What am I to do??? I only know I have the very last version for Win XP... I've run virus scans, adaware scans - defragged the hard drive... -
Inappropriate?Typed "about:crashes" in the browser and got:

How do I submit a crash report? Do you mean the Windows reports?
Thanks -
You're not getting a report for Firefox? If so, it's an issue external to Firefox causing the crash. Otherwise, Firefox would submit it's own crash report to Microsoft. If you like, you can try using a new profile to see if that resolves the issue. If not, then it's most likely an issue with Windows. Since it says module msvcr80.dll, which means Microsoft Visual C Runtime 8.0, then it's an issue with your Visual C dll and you should grab the latest redistributables here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/de... -
Inappropriate? No help here, but I have exactly the same problem. It started around April 17th and continues through today. Seemingly random crashes. Sometimes it crashes on startup, sometimes I get a few minutes out of it, and sometimes I can leave it open for hours only to come back and find it crashed.
No extensions or themes, tried uninstalling/reinstalling, tried uninstalling / reinstalling AVG, tried disabling every plugin (though I noticed just now my Java 1.6 U 11 plugin seems to have re-enabled itself...) . Maybe next I'll try untinstalling and not leaving data behind.
I've been a dedicated Firefox user for a long time now, but am getting so frustrated.

Thanks for the reply BugMeNot... I ended up de-installing AVG 8.5 and installing Norton Antivirus, which found Adware180 installed. No crashes in the last hour or so..... I'll update this later whether it seems to have fixed it or not.
(If it works I guess I'll have to buy and use Norton.) -
Just to update my own story.... After the Norton, I was still getting redirects, ocassional "harder" Firefox crashes without the ability to submit the bug report, and also discovered that trying to run cmd or regedit caused restarts of the Explorer process. (Even in safe mode.) I also used Spybot, Malwarebytes, Windows Malicious Software tool April '09, and generated a HijackThis! log and examined all the processes myself. None of that worked, so I did a clean reinstall of the OEM's initial install disk image. (And still reinstalling / patching / etc.) :( But at least I'm clean again! -
Inappropriate? Thanks Thomas I will give that a try.

The first two are the same as this bug, do you have CoolIris/PicLens? https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug... -
Nope I do not have CoolIris/PicLens. Only plugins I have are
Shockwave Flash
File name: Flash Player.plugin
Shockwave Flash 9.0 r151
Google Talk Browser Plugin
File name: googletalkbrowserplugin.plugin
Enables video/audio chat
Java Embedding Plugin 0.9.6.4
File name: MRJPlugin.plugin
Runs Java applets using the latest installed versions of Java. For more information: Java Embedding Plugin. Run version test: Java Information.
Default Plug-in
File name: Default Plugin.plugin
Netscape Navigator Default Plug-in
MoveNetworks Quantum Media Player
File name: Move-Media-Player.plugin
npmnqmp 071101000050
QuickTime Plug-in 7.6
File name: QuickTime Plugin.plugin
The QuickTime Plugin allows you to view a wide variety of multimedia content in web pages. For more information, visit the QuickTime Web site. -
I've also verified all my fonts through font book and they all check out. -
Please read move networks bad! -
What is MoveNetworks? I uninstalled (and deleted the firefox directories) and reinstalled firefox and the plugin was there. I never installed any special plugins so I assumed it came with firefox? -
It's something CNN installed when you tried to watch video there, or another tv site might have done it. You can disable it and it will probably fix your problem. -
I deleted the plugin and restarted firefox. Since then I haven't had a crash. Here's hoping I get through the day without a crash. -
Spoke too soon, just had a crash:
0c61064f-e8f5-460b-8ece-136422090424 4/24/09 2:56 PM -
That's a different crash, this thread talks about the dylib.a issue. -
That's great that there is a bug for it but it is from 6 months ago. Very strange that this didn't start happening until 3.0.8. I've already created a new profile, in fact my current firefox install is a brand new install. I've already verified my fonts (yesterday). -
You can post the crash IDs in the proper bug reports and aid in their resolution. -

You have the fastzero_l crash, I did some research and that was fixed 1 week ago: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug... so if you download a more recent build here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.or... then you might not notice it anymore. -
Thomas, I added a new profile and that seems to be working. 3 hours with no crash. But how do I copy bookmarks from the prior profile to the new profile? -

Except for e159b2df-0433-46e9-8bf6-39ce62090421, those are all @ _PR_MD_SEND crashers, which is this bug - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug... (please read it and possibly comment if you have something to add, but definitely CC yourself to the bug). Someone else posted some possibly helpful information in this thread: http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_... (the poster of that thread also asked for help here: http://www.tech-forums.net/pc/f50/fir... ). So, from what I'm reading, there's no solution for _PR_MD_SEND yet. However, if you can try things mentioned in the bug's comments, or can provide extra information, your information MAY be of use. Please refrain from simple "me too" comments, but you may be able to test tryserver builds with patches that are being tested, which is why you should definitely be CC'd to the bug. -
Inappropriate? So this: "Add-ons: {972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}:3.0.9" is falling under that bug you listed the link for there? If so, I did attach one of my e-mail addresses to the CC list. For now, I think I will be using Safari. Thanks for your help.
-
This is not a crash ID: "Add-ons: {972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}:3.0.9"
It's the UUID of the CoolIris addon (as mentioned everywhere when you google the part between {}, like http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_... ). Basically, CoolIris caused the crash you posted with the Add-ons: text. -
Inappropriate?I have searched for the CoolIris addon and found nothing. My computer has no record of it and it is not listed on my addons list. Am I missing something here?
