Firefox crashing on right click save image

I am running Firefox v 3.5.3 - for the last few versions, Firefox consistently crashes on right click save image as, after about 20 images. With or without any plugins activated or not, every 20 images or so it crashes when I try to save an image. I see people with this problem dating back over a year and no info on what the fix is.
