Firefox will not remember passwords and I won't stay logged into sites
I have Firefox 3.5.2 and there are a few weird and very annoying things going on...
1. It will not save my passwords for any sites and does not ask me if I want to save it(and I do have the option enabled to save passwords, I also have the option enabled to allow cookies with no exceptions).
2. Websites (such as forums) with the option to keep me logged in (or remember me) do not work - I get logged out if I close Firefox or if I leave the site for a while.
not sure if this is related but...
3. Firefox is freezing for about 2-5 seconds at what seems like random times. When I say freeze I mean everything just stops - I can't click or type anything on the Firefox window. After the couple of seconds it just keeps going again like nothing happened and if I was typing all the letters will pop up.

I have this problem, too!
Tell me when someone solves it.

Inappropriate?Well I have been having the same problem. Seems like it started when I enabled the Better Privacy in Tools. Just changed several things, allowing most all cookies etc. It now works, changed them back to original settings and it still works, so I don't know for sure just what fixed it. Just glad it works again. Good luck.
For me this effected being able to store my favorite channels on TV Guide to as well as numerous other issues. I will respond again when and if i can find out more. -
Inappropriate?I read this and had tried that, but it was not the passwords that Firefox was prompting that would not be remembered, it was things like my yahoo mail password, and the preferences in TVGUIDE for what channels i like. Those seem to be stored somewhere else and were not saved, or were cleared on exit or startup.
Funny, how the CCleaner program will give same result.
Yet changing all the settings made it go away, but then changing them back so I could determine which setting had caused the issue did not make them reappear.
I have gone so far as to uninstall firefox, delete directories, clean registry, then reinstall and problem persisted.
Yet it miraculously now works after randomly changing many settings in options and better privacy.
There is a reason, just not sure I can figure it out, like a physicist throwing balls into loft of a barn to determine what is stored up there therein inferring the structure of the Universe.... hahaha. Will keep trying....
The one thing I did not manually delete when I uninstalled was the C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Mozilla directory. And that probably allowed the problem to persist. I did delete the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox directory, and cleaned the registry of all the left over references, and that did not solve problem, so I think it is in the USER application data, unless there is some other place where this stores it's information.
An update is that TVGuide still will not store channels, it now does save some preferences (region and cable provider), but not channels and number of hours to display on screen. -
Inappropriate?Does TVGuide use a login? If so, then they should be saving your settings serverside. Otherwise, they're setting a session cookie, and those are cleared when you close the browser (usually session cookies are used for things like bank logins or paypal logins, so they're removed fast for security). If that's the case, and you know what you're doing, you can use CookieCuller to force the TVGuide cookie to stay forever, even between closing and opening Firefox. That may be your solution.

Inappropriate?TV Guide does not use a logon, and I am quite sure it saves the settings on my local PC since the CC Cleaner wipes them out.
I will try your suggestion and respond. -
Inappropriate?Ok I installed the cookie culler, went so far as to first protect the cookies for tvguide, then create preferences. Then went back in and noticed the new cookies created, protected them also.
Alas, they did persist. but They don't work in application.
I love firefox, but I do not have this problem in IE.8
As a suggestion, it would be much easier to do this if All Cookies for a site could be protected rather than having to protect each one, therefor requiring you to know that a new one you might need (and don't know about) has been created and has to be handled.
The problems I had with yahoo mail are solved. This is a different issue. -
Inappropriate?Louis, I can recreate or eliminate the Password problem by checking/unchecking the option in Tools/Options/Privacy Then click button Settings under Clear History when Firefox Closes, The option to clear cookies does have control. I don't know if it is the only thing, but it does effect this.
Thomas, the Cookie Culler seems to have no impact on how this setting impacts this issue.
Good Luck, I am out of here. -
Inappropriate?I don't know anything technical, but I observed this data before and after solving this problem:
I save many cookies(i.e.; Amazon, etc.)
When I had this problem, I looked to see if some cookies were missing, and they all were gone. I Only had the cookies from the current logon. Eventually, I rebooted my computer and forced a Flashplayer update (there were snags). and now everything works fine. (I Also unchecked the "save active logons" option under tools>options>privacy>clear history when FF closes).
Also ALL my cookies (40 of them) were back! Some were very old! So they were always there, but not available.
Now a techie might answer this:
Could Firefox be entering either a SAFE mode or the new START PRIVATE BROWSING mode without my knowledge? This might account for the behavior described. -
Inappropriate?I had the same problem, Firefox WAS Starting PRIVATE BROWSING automatically
seems to default on install. Using custom settings in Privacy tab sorted my problem.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for confirming my suspicions! Since I know absolutely zero about how all this stuff works, I feel rather satisfied that I wasn't totally off base.
Now that the issue has been identified, I'm sure Mozilla can tweak (maybe already has) the default install settings.
How do we contact them?
I’m sorta stoked

Inappropriate?Firefox sucks! I'm sorry but run away from this product as fast as you
can. It eats your computer up. You can never get it to work. It
malfunctions with every application on your computer. It's a waste of
time. Run the other direction. Away from Firefox!
I'm serious. I have had nothing but trouble with it. And what's worse...
is firefox won't help. They are clueless.
So again... run away from it as fast as you can. Do not run the risk of
wasting time, energy or your valuable computer on firefox. -
I agree, Chris, I'd been a loyal FireFox user for a long while, but as time passes I realize it's the crappiest browser around, more & more issues! Run away!
