Firefox won't save my passwords.
Firefox is constantly asking me if I want to save this password. I almost always answer yes. Yet the next time I navigate to that page, I have to fill out the password box. Then it asks me if I want Firefox to remember the password. Argh!

If you do what garf said, you will delete all your saved passwords.
Try what Tom said, http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/U....

Inappropriate?Try the methods mentioned in the user name and password not remembered knowledge base article, and see if that fixes it. If not, post a reply and let me know what OS you're on and what version of Firefox as well.

Thomas,
I followed the directions on the page you gave me. All my settings were set correctly, but, it didn't change anything. I opened the password manager and there were very few of my accounts and passwords listed. I know I've done more than that!
I went to https://www.squarefree.com/bookmarkle... page and downloaded the bookmarklet. I tried it out on the yahoo mail page and it worked like a charm. Then I went to my Craig's List account page and tried the bookmarklet there. It worked there, too. So, maybe that was the problem along?
So now that you've helped me with all that, I have a new concern. Ain't that just like a girl? When I open the password manager, the passwords that are finally saved don't show up. I don't reckon it is a big enough deal to stop using the bookmarklet, but I was wondering what you thought about that.
I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.14, and Mac OS X, Version 10.5.2
Thanks very much for your help! -
I don't know why the passwords don't show up in the Show All Passwords dialog, typically at this point a user would probably get asked to try using a new profile. At this point (when it's working but partially) a user might get asked to try a new profile. I'll make a full post for that. -
Inappropriate?Since this needs links and you can't do those in comments, Girl Friday, I'm using a new post to extend my comment.
If you like, follow the instructions to create a new profile and then transfer your data to the new profile (more here). It is not as difficult as it seems, and is the surefire way to resolve weird glitches like this. I hate recommending it so soon, but since you say it is saving passwords but not listing them in the Saved Passwords dialog, there's probably something screwy in there and this will surely resolve it.
The other option is just to live with it, since the passwords are saved. That's not optimal, but it is an option.

I had to sign up just to say thanks for this answer, it worked perfectly for me!
Although I'm not sure why you say "I hate recommending it so soon", because it was very quick and easy to do.
Thanks. -
I say I hate recommending it so soon because I thought it was a bit of a pain, but it's pretty much guaranteed to work. Glad to hear it wasn't. -
Inappropriate?I had a similar problem where the problem site would ask me to save the password, take the security password and not show up in the saved password list or, of course, fill in the login boxes next time I visited. For me the problem was that the site was also on my exclude list in the security preferences. So I was telling Firefox not to save the site. I would think it wouldn't ask in that case or provide an error msg but nothing. It just appears to save and continues on to confuse you at a later date. Hope this helps someone.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?OK, I read the links that Thomas indicated. I created a new profile and copied places.sqlite, formhistory.sqlite, cookies.sqlite and searchplugins/ from "default". The problem didn't disappear. So, I "debugged" the process, copying each file and opening FF to test. I realized that the problem came back when I copied cookies.sqlite.
So, I simply removed cookies.sqlite from my "default" profile, and everything is working fine. Probably, Preferences -> Privacy -> Show Cookies -> Remove All Cookies has the same effect.
Please Thomas, let me know if this is a FF problem, or bad cookie management from websites. Since it happens in all websites and a website shouldn't be able to corrupt cookies.sqlite, I think that is a FF bug.
Tip: I remember that I had the same problem some time ago when I was using FF2, so it's not FF3 exclusive.
I’m relieved
-
Inappropriate?SORRY! My problem wasn't the same as Girl Friday. Firefox was remembering my passwords, but the "automatically sign in" feature wasn't working.
-
Inappropriate?try deleting "signons2.txt" "signons3.txt" etc... and "key3.db" on your profiles folder
-
Can you give me some more information about this? I think you're assuming that I know more than I really do.
Thanks -
Inappropriate? My profile folder under spanish winxp is on:
C:\Documents and Settings\GarF\Datos de programa\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\r57qfr3a.default
Go into that folder and delete (or rename) the files that i told you in the other comment -
I have a mac. I don't have one of those files. I think that if I were a windows person what you said might work. -
Inappropriate?I didn't know you were still having problems, Girl Friday.
I'm going to point you to some of the newer support.mozilla.com documents. Number one, you wanted to know where to delete those files, profile folder contents would tell you about that. However, I'd first suggest looking at the (new) username and password not remembered page, as I think it's a little more up to date than the mozillazine knowledgebase.
The last ditch effort, to create a new profile, is outlined in recovering important data from an old profile. I would recommend backing up your data as mentioned there anyway, before you go ahead and delete those signons.txt and key3.db files. Just in case.

Firefox support can be found in the form of a knowledge base, you can ask a question at support.mozilla.com, visit our chat room at irc.mozilla.org #firefox, or just post here at Get Satisfaction. -
Inappropriate? It makes you just want to wonder - all of my friends have the same issue with brand new installs of Firefox. Firefox is okay for web browsing but once you start relying on it for other things, like remembering passwords - don't.

Don't give up! There's not just documents on support.mozilla.com, there's also live chat support and support forums. Pass it on. -

help plz.. -
Inappropriate?I also had this problem where firefox didnt remember my password , but this works because I have done it. here it is go to start all programs accessories, system tools system restore restore my computer click on date click on save or okay. good luck.
-
Inappropriate?I followed the directions under the "user name and password not remembered" and it said to check if the box is clicked to remember passwords and it was, so it said to check if your recently updated firefox had the error of it not remembering them and it did, so it said to update it to the even newer version and that error would go away and the problem would be fixed. so i did that, and it still wont remember my passwords! i just signed up for bank of america online and it will not remember my computer and my password or even my checking account nicknames, also it wont remember my facebook email and password, or will not let me save my hotmail email. i really want to fix this problem. does anyone know anything i missed or anything i can do???
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I restored my computer,,like this go to start. all programs. accessories, system tools, system restore click on date you want to go back to and click on save or okay. that fixed my problem. hope this helps. Peggy

Inappropriate?Whoever redirected my thread

to here is an idiot. If anything posted in this thread solved my problem I wouldn't start a new thread, would I?
I tried everything up until deleting cookie file in my profile., Firefox still don't sign-in automatically. It signed-in automatically before but not now. I don't know where it went wrong but it's pretty serious.
I’m frustrated

1. Locate your profile folder - it's a randomly named subfolder of the
directory that opens when you hold down the "windows logo" key on your keyboard
and press R then in that Run dialog paste %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
and hit enter.
2. Ensure Firefox is closed using File -> Exit from menu, and check your Task
Manager processes tab to be sure there is no firefox.exe listed.
3. Find the file there named cookies.sqlite and rename it to cookiesOLD.sqlite
4. Restart Firefox, log into your sites.
5. Restart firefox again and revisit the sites to see if it logs you in
automatically (if you have chosen "remember me" or other option on the sites.)
The reason the cookies.sqlite database storage of your cookies gets corrupted is because of "cleaning" or "scanning" of tracking cookies done by security/privacy/ad killing software running on your system.
Find the settings for that function and disable it. The recommended Firefox add-on for better directly managing your cookies is:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/ad... -
Thanks for calling me a "retard". Threads are threads on a single topic. Yes, you may not yet have found a solution in here, but that's no reason to abandon all progress (since we know you've tried all solutions in here, we know what NOT to suggest) and start fresh, wasting your time reading previously-tried solutions and our time suggesting them. I really appreciate your bile filled speech, and don't plan on trying to help you at all now or in the future. -
Inappropriate?BugMeNot, thank you for explaning how cookies can be corrupted. I tried deleting cookies.sqlite before now you mentioned it again I noticed something. When I did that FF will log me in automatically *if* I won't leave tabs open (save&quit) for later. If I do just that I'll be fine. Still save&quit with a few tabs (sites need to be signed-in) opened, FF won't automatically sign me in next time.
Look like I have to stick to this work-around and try it again when Windows 7 and new FF coming.
Thanks anyway. Only us user know how frustrating some situations can be. -
Inappropriate?i had same problems!
after update firefox wont save any password and i reinstall firefox 4-5times and
had same problems.
now i think i have solution for you guys!
it worked for me so it should work for you also. (i hope)
go to preferences
and click Privacy
you probably checked or automatically checked "Clear history when firefox closes" after update has been made.
I always check "clear history after firefox closes" and i didnt look at the setting after update.
(if you usually uncheck that setting just uncheck it and it should work right away but if you check that setting usually follow next step)
now click setting right next to "Clear history when firefox closes"
and it should be looking like this

there might be check mark next to "Active Logins"
Un-Check it and click OK.
Let's test it out if that was the problem.
go to your favorite forum or e-mail account site.
put your ID and Password and click "remember password" if there's one.
now log in. after successfully logged into your favorite forum or e-mail acct.
quit the firefox.
start the browser and go to the forum or e-mail acct. your just saved into your firefox.
Ta-dah~!
it works right?
no?
then it's something else i guess..
it worked for me tho.
anyway this is my two cent for ya~!
