Firefox won't save my passwords.
The more people who report this problem, the more it gets noticed.

Inappropriate?Try the methods mentioned in the user name and password not remembered knowledge base article, and see if that fixes it. If not, post a reply and let me know what OS you're on and what version of Firefox as well.

Thomas,
I followed the directions on the page you gave me. All my settings were set correctly, but, it didn't change anything. I opened the password manager and there were very few of my accounts and passwords listed. I know I've done more than that!
I went to https://www.squarefree.com/bookmarkle... page and downloaded the bookmarklet. I tried it out on the yahoo mail page and it worked like a charm. Then I went to my Craig's List account page and tried the bookmarklet there. It worked there, too. So, maybe that was the problem along?
So now that you've helped me with all that, I have a new concern. Ain't that just like a girl? When I open the password manager, the passwords that are finally saved don't show up. I don't reckon it is a big enough deal to stop using the bookmarklet, but I was wondering what you thought about that.
I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.14, and Mac OS X, Version 10.5.2
Thanks very much for your help! -
I don't know why the passwords don't show up in the Show All Passwords dialog, typically at this point a user would probably get asked to try using a new profile. At this point (when it's working but partially) a user might get asked to try a new profile. I'll make a full post for that. -
Inappropriate?Since this needs links and you can't do those in comments, Girl Friday, I'm using a new post to extend my comment.
If you like, follow the instructions to create a new profile and then transfer your data to the new profile (more here). It is not as difficult as it seems, and is the surefire way to resolve weird glitches like this. I hate recommending it so soon, but since you say it is saving passwords but not listing them in the Saved Passwords dialog, there's probably something screwy in there and this will surely resolve it.
The other option is just to live with it, since the passwords are saved. That's not optimal, but it is an option. -
Inappropriate?I had a similar problem where the problem site would ask me to save the password, take the security password and not show up in the saved password list or, of course, fill in the login boxes next time I visited. For me the problem was that the site was also on my exclude list in the security preferences. So I was telling Firefox not to save the site. I would think it wouldn't ask in that case or provide an error msg but nothing. It just appears to save and continues on to confuse you at a later date. Hope this helps someone.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?OK, I read the links that Thomas indicated. I created a new profile and copied places.sqlite, formhistory.sqlite, cookies.sqlite and searchplugins/ from "default". The problem didn't disappear. So, I "debugged" the process, copying each file and opening FF to test. I realized that the problem came back when I copied cookies.sqlite.
So, I simply removed cookies.sqlite from my "default" profile, and everything is working fine. Probably, Preferences -> Privacy -> Show Cookies -> Remove All Cookies has the same effect.
Please Thomas, let me know if this is a FF problem, or bad cookie management from websites. Since it happens in all websites and a website shouldn't be able to corrupt cookies.sqlite, I think that is a FF bug.
Tip: I remember that I had the same problem some time ago when I was using FF2, so it's not FF3 exclusive.
I’m relieved

Inappropriate?SORRY! My problem wasn't the same as Girl Friday. Firefox was remembering my passwords, but the "automatically sign in" feature wasn't working.
-
Inappropriate?try deleting "signons2.txt" "signons3.txt" etc... and "key3.db" on your profiles folder
-
Can you give me some more information about this? I think you're assuming that I know more than I really do.
Thanks -
Inappropriate? My profile folder under spanish winxp is on:
C:\Documents and Settings\GarF\Datos de programa\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\r57qfr3a.default
Go into that folder and delete (or rename) the files that i told you in the other comment -
I have a mac. I don't have one of those files. I think that if I were a windows person what you said might work. -
Inappropriate?I didn't know you were still having problems, Girl Friday.
I'm going to point you to some of the newer support.mozilla.com documents. Number one, you wanted to know where to delete those files, profile folder contents would tell you about that. However, I'd first suggest looking at the (new) username and password not remembered page, as I think it's a little more up to date than the mozillazine knowledgebase.
The last ditch effort, to create a new profile, is outlined in recovering important data from an old profile. I would recommend backing up your data as mentioned there anyway, before you go ahead and delete those signons.txt and key3.db files. Just in case.

Inappropriate? It makes you just want to wonder - all of my friends have the same issue with brand new installs of Firefox. Firefox is okay for web browsing but once you start relying on it for other things, like remembering passwords - don't.

Don't give up! There's not just documents on support.mozilla.com, there's also live chat support and support forums. Pass it on. -
Inappropriate? If you do what garf said, you will delete all your saved passwords.
Try what Tom said, http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/U....
