When Firefox auto-updates itself (or Thunderbird for that matter), is it possible to use FTP instead of HTTP to download the update?

I can't find any information on this, I'm thinking that you're not sent to an HTTP server but to the randomizer which sends you to a random download site, which may be HTTP or FTP. You might be able to change your update channel to some success.

I noticed that there are a few app.update.url.* entries in about:config. Are they supposed to work if the http is changed to ftp?

Shooting in the dark because the very page I linked (or at least something it links to) mentions that changing that will do nothing.
