go to facebook, go to hotmail, go to gmail, go to yahoo, go to amazon, go to cnet
go to facebook, go to hotmail, go to gmail, go to yahoo, go to amazon, go to cnet, go to dpreview. i think it would be nice if Ubiquity could have a list of common websites (and their abbreviations) which can be updated by the community. the user would just type "go to <website name="true">". if there are more than one website with similar titles, the user could be shown both websites and be allowed to choose which one to go to.</website>

Inappropriate?Rather than doing a community 'favorites' list, why not have ubiquity be able to see the USER's most viewed or recently viewed websites (history) and have that appear in the 'go to' list? You could incorporate firefox's address bar logic into ubiquity.
I’m excited

Inappropriate?Well - i created something like that. If you guys are using 0.2 (maybe 0.1.5 works, but i'm not sure) take a look at http://gist.github.com/18331
-
Inappropriate?im running 0.2pre13 and it doesnt seem to work very well... the awesome bar works but ub doesnt read it. can you change the command to be goto instead of go_to... it's easier to type.
I’m intrigued
-
Strange. works 100% for me (sometimes, it's slow) - you can always copy the code and paste on the command editor and edit.
How ubiquity can't read the awesome bar? no results show up? -
Inappropriate?ok it does work, was typing in go_to not go-to... sorry, it's late :P The only snag i see is if people are clearing their history every time they close the browser. also, it would be nice to see a nsfw filter for it, or to be able to somehow set permissions for commands like this. maybe add a command like 'forget (url)' to erase certain sites or perhaps never remember them again. i'm sure you know what im getting at...
I’m loving ubiquity more and more
-
no probs. well, that's why privacy mode is called pr0n mode - but it just exists on firefox 3.1.
i did one to delete urls too - but the behavior is kind of strange - i have to take a look at it... if i fix it, i post here. -
Inappropriate?well, it also technically exists on previous versions. you just set up firefox to automatically erase history and cookies and what not on close. let me know how it goes.
I’m surly

Inappropriate?is it easier to type
g o [space] t o [space] f a c e b o o k
than
f a c e b o o k [Ctrl + Enter] ?
I’m sad

Inappropriate? It's the same issue as quicksilver... is it easier to go to the dock and click on firefox or type command+space q u i c k s i l v e r? the answer for me is that it depends. If my hand is already on the mouse...actually, it doesnt depend, i still move my hands to the keyboard because typing those few keystrokes is less taxing than having to aim at an icon with the mouse. Keystrokes don't require precision and there is a level of precision required when double clicking on an icon. And in your comment, while facebook has less keys to press (by 5) you still need to move the mouse and click on the address bar and select all the text, or double click / triple click the address bar. to highlight the entire line and THEN type facebook.
Personally, being a quicksilver aficionado, i think ubiquity will change the way some of us work with the web.
I’m happier than Tom

Uh, well if you're already using Firefox, then the clicking on the dock part is silly. Ubiquity won't come up unless Firefox is the selected window. And you don't need to click the address bar, press Command+L. -
Inappropriate? As Gustavo said, for me too is easier to option+space, type go, them type anything else (like gmail) and press enter.
It's faster because even if i'm reading something on wikipedia, i don't need to move my hands off the keyboard. -
Hit Command+L, type 'gmail', then hit enter. -
Inappropriate? It seems from the two replies above that people are more interested in "go to" because they can hit Alt (or Option) + Space to bring up Ubiquity, when they'd have to click on the Location bar. Not true. You can simply hit Ctrl (or Command) + L to bring up the location bar and highlight the entire thing.
I’m sad

this lack of knowledge on my part is partly due to lack of marketing and documentation/hints for firefox. It would be great if shortcuts like this were readily available. like grayed out text in the address bar on the right giving you the key code combination to control it. or perhaps on hover, a popup with the key combo? This is more for firefox than ub -
I'm not blaming you for lack of knowledge, just trying to help make the ease of keyboard shortcuts available sooner rather than later. Here's some documents you might find useful: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/K... http://lifehacker.com/software/feature/hack-attack-mouseless-firefox-139495.php -
Inappropriate?ok..nevermind! Invitation only. Tom, don't market something I can't try out!! That's just plain mean. Like putting a carrot in front of a donkey.
-
Erm, please restrict comments to the correct threads, that was confusing. -
whoops, yeah... my bad -
Inappropriate? This is basically like what the current Firefox awesome bar already does! I don't see any reason that Ubiquity shouldn't be able to do it as well though.
I’m cool.
-
Inappropriate?yeah, after learning about command+L, i feel the same way. no need to work on a go-to command...
