Hotkeys to Automatically Perform/Display Commands in Ubiquity
One of the things that got me hooked to Apple's Mac OS X Safari browser for such a long time was its ctrl+cmd+d command that's used to define words that are highlighted or hovered over with the mouse cursor. While I understand that Mozilla is aware of this feature's absence and desirability for the organization's Gecko-based web browsers (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug...), I've just realized Ubiquity's potential to make it obsolete.
My proposal: enable optional, user-created keyboard shortcuts that can either perform a command on the text or display the said command in Ubiquity to view the contents in preview form (based on user preference). This, combined with access outside of the browser (http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla/to...) would give Ubiquity the functionality that users of other browsers could only dream of. If this feature is not popular enough to risk "bloating" Ubiquity, perhaps a developer would be so kind as to make this possible as an extension?
Seeing that Thunderbird integration is being worked on, perhaps it could even be possible for Ubiquity to be able to access Mac OS X's Dictionary in future?

Inappropriate?I just watched http://www.azarask.in/blog/post/ubiqu... but I'm not sure if it could be leveraged to achieve this end.
I know I can set a keyword for a bookmarklet so, for example I can type "define ubiquity" in the addressbar and it will have the same effect as if I highlighted the word then click this bookmarklet in the bookmarks toolbar:
javascript:var%20s%20=%20'%s';%20if%20(s%20==%20'%'%20+%20's')%20{%20s%20=%20'';%20s%20=%20document.getSelection()%20}%20if%20(s%20!=%20'')%20{%20s%20=%20escape(s).replace(/\+/g,%20%22%%22%20+%20%222b%22);location.href='http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/'+s%20}%20else%20alert('Select%20some%20text.');void(0);
If this was converted to ubiquity as the one in the video was, I could definitely see the advantage to having it accessible via a keyboard shortcut. -
Inappropriate?Btw, that bookmarklet was a crude example, it could definitely do with some XHR love that puts the definition into a psuedo popup without actually going to wiktionary
I’m amused
