I want a tag-group feature!
What I want is a way to organize tabs into groups of tabs. So in other words, instead of opening a new window and loading it up with tabs, I can just select a different set of tabs to appear in the current window. A good yet incomplete example can be seen here [ http://www.paranoid-androids.com/tabg... ].
In a way Firefox can already do what I'm asking but it requires making a folder of links then selecting "Open All in Tabs." The problem is that doing this wipes out everything you were previously doing.

Inappropriate?There is a way to do it. I was at the Firefox Add-on (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire...) site a few minutes ago. Just search for "tabs". There were several Add-ons listed there. Some of them will even give the groups different colors.

Thomas, try installing that example. It's not terrible, quite frankly it's the best example I've found, but personally it could use some compatibility fixes and better integration. Right now that tool seems only good as a proof of concept sort of thing. Plus I don't really like, and I'm sure other users would hate it, having another physical row of tabs. I want tab groups to be fairly similar to having a folder of bookmarks, the big difference being that within the same window those bookmarks are active and can hide the current set of tabs on the fly.
Anyhow, that little tab on the right side of all your tabs ... that's where I think a pop-down list for choosing which tab group to show should be. -
Well, I understand your reasoning behind not wanting yet another toolbar, but I really don't think you want to use the tab drop down list for this. Unless, of course, you mean using it as a switcher of groups, which would potentially ruin it's initial purpose (if the ability to show both the current set of tabs as well as a list of tab groups at the same time is not possible, you'd have to scroll through tabs horizontally, which can be annoying). I'm not even sure if extensions can mess with the tab dropdown. Have you contacted the extension developer to discuss your ideas with him/her, perhaps link him/her to this thread?

I only mentioned that particular drop-down because it seemed like an ideal place to put it. None the less my thinking is a pop-down of some sort would be better but where and how to place I'll have to think about more. Have I contacted the person, no I haven't and yes that might be a better place to seek results. As for your statement about having to scroll through tabs, I use FaviconizeTab which minimizes those tabs. So I normally have at least 20 tabs open on a regular basis. I seem to be one of the few who thinks he needs to have Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Gubb.net, and del.icio.us open at all times. This is all the more reason to have tab-groups. That way one group has my web-based applications and another group is of new websites I'm checking out.
