Play nice with Mac OSX shortcuts.
What pisses me off is that command-shift-/ gives me the help menu in any other mac except firefox with the latter insisting on navigating to a Firefox help page instead. Why is this important? Because I've been using that help menu to access the cool OSX 'search' box that can search only menu items of the application you are in. It's effectively changed my mac app workflow.

The company has this in progress.
The best point from the company

You actually mean Command-? not Command-/. The ? is what Apple was going for.

I’m sad

command-shift-/ = command-? -
Inappropriate?no i said 'command-shift-/' that is the same as 'command-?'. whatever you call it though, its the only Mac app that I have that does not bring down the help menu but instead proceeds to launch a new webpage with the firefox help section. i keep forgetting about this behavior and launching it to search through the app menus but finding myself having to close the new window/tab and mouse over to the menu bar.
note that this feature, if working correctly, would allow one to search even their bookmarks (especially menu bar in my case) simply by typing a few characters and for anyone thinking of suggesting the 'awesome bar' - yes i do use it (command-L) but it does not include menu bar 'shortcuts' (rather than full URL or title) since i've given them all nicknames.
I’m waiting

Actually previously the search box killed the browser completely, see this bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug... -
Inappropriate?too bad mozilla firefox has not been able to play well with mac osx after all this time. i guess they are still too windows-centric.
the only thing that keeps me using firefox is the availability of very useful (albeit sometimes unstable) extensions. safari is a better browser though.
I’m thankful
-
If you want to talk about Windows-centric, look at Adobe Flash. The performance of Flash is much better on Windows, I loaded a VM to see if http://ingenuitywelcome.com ran better on Windows than on Mac OS (in both Safari and Firefox) and it ran so much better it was ridiculous.
You should try Camino out sometime. -
i generally try to avoid anything with flash on any platform. no need for the fancy eye candy that most of it is. i've tried camino and a couple of other browsers but none offer the extensions and broad support of firefox for better or worse. i generally use ff and safari most of the time with focus shifting from one to the other. fwiw i think safari's simplicity makes it better for the basic user. -
Ok? Just because you ignore Flash does not mean it is not windows-centric. I guess you must not live in the states because 1) you're up now and 2) you don't use Hulu ;) -
thomas - i can't ignore flash because its almost everywhere but lets just say that those who rely on it rarely get my attention. thankfully many contemporary useful sites seem to skip it. i also didn't say it wasn't windows-centric. im in kuwait and i dont use hulu because it doesn't let me unless i switch on my VPN but i have not figured out how to connect my appleTV via my VPN. -
Inappropriate?Seconded very strongly. FF is the only app I've seen that busts this... One of the few reasons that I don't use it as my primary browser...
I’m frustrated
-
doesn't look like they're planning to fix it anytime soon - or ever.
