Inappropriate?By select box, do you mean drop down menu? Or perhaps, checkbox or radio box?
Is this happening on a certain site, or all sites, or just a few sites, and can you name them so I can check it out?

Firefox support can be found in the form of a knowledge base, you can ask a question at support.mozilla.com, visit our chat room at irc.mozilla.org #firefox, or just post here at Get Satisfaction. -
Inappropriate?Yes, drop down menu.
Example is on http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/, at the bottom "Other languages" and it applies to all sites.
-
Inappropriate?I checked with mzz, he says it in fact did used to do it in Firefox 2, but neither of us can figure out why you'd want to be able to right click on a select menu. Can you give an example of how this would be useful?
-
Inappropriate? There is only one scenario where I make use of right click on a drop down.
I'm using firebug and need to inspect the element.
Since I'm not able to right click the drop down, I have to right click to the nearest place and then browse through the DOM to find the drop down...
I think right click should be allowed on drop downs while add ons might make use of it...
-
Inappropriate?mzz says:
open firebug, hit "Inspect" bottom (near the top left of the firebug ui) then left-click the thing you want to inspect
normal leftclick behavior for stuff like links is disabled while you're in that mode -
Inappropriate?Yes, I know the workaround, but I'd still appreciate more if I'm able to right click the drop down :/
Understood that right click has no use on drop down, but yet there are still cases where it's more efficient than going to Inspect, ...

Inappropriate? We'll see how Bug 457319 goes.

Inappropriate? There really isn't any context menu items appropriate for a drop down. Marking this WONTFIX. If an extension can't implement the feature itself without XUL changes, file a bug to enhance the toolkit.
-
Inappropriate?I also have this problem. It's VERY frustrating, because I use the addon Auto-fill forms on multiple sites and i can't choose an auto-selection on select dropdowns because I can't get a context menu on them. I don't like having to find some other way to bypass this. Having a context menu on it would make sense, you should be able to do the same things to a select input as a text input, like copy or paste.

Inappropriate?Me too. I want to be able to inspect elements by right-clicking them and choosing ("inspect"), which was possible with FF3.
The workaround involves opening firebug, choosing "inspect", then left-clicking the element (which may now be hidden by the Firebug panel, meaning you have to scroll to find it).

Inappropriate?I basically have this problem in case of <select>. It would be so nice to have a right click on the SELECT box and delete the entry that u have selected.</select>
-
Inappropriate?I meant SELECT BOX with MULTIPLE options true
-
ctrl clicking an item deselects it -
Inappropriate? No. I did not mean deselecting the value, i meant "deleting that value from the list box"
-
Why would you want to do that? -
Are you talking about a dropdown box that comes from like, a username textarea? -
Inappropriate?Deleting an entry is one of requirements in project. I will tell you the req. in breif.
Basically we are importing the list in SELECT box from master list and then eventually having an option to delete the imported list if you feel its not necessary to have those particular item in the selected list of items. Its just to make the GUI more user friendly. -
Inappropriate?I'm sorry to say that without either JS manipulating the source and DOM tree, you can't do that. No browser has ever supported the user modifying the contents of SELECT drop downs without relying on user-side JS (such as a Greasemonkey script or bookmarklet) or AJAX like functions created by the page author.

Inappropriate? We use Selenium to test some of our Web Applications. In some instances we need to use a xpath to the select element. In FF 2 we used XPather to get the xpath by right clicking on the select element and selecting "Show in XPather" from the context menu. Now in FF 3 it doesn't work and it appears that this is not going to be fixed. Is that correct?
