Ubiquity notifications are too ubiquitous
Every time I open a browser, I get several messages from ubiquity commands. I really would like to not have these notifications appear anymore.

Inappropriate? What kind of messages are you receiving? Are they in the browser window or Growl/toaster notifications?
-
It's the growl notifications that I'm talking about. Messages overlap one another, take about 10-15 seconds to slide out and back, and generally get in the way. I hate to propose setting a pref as the solution, but how do you keep one commands notifications from overlapping another or otherwise being annoying? -
Inappropriate?I have noticed the "Did you know Ubiquity has a command for this website?" message quite regularly of late.
-
Inappropriate?Craig, do those messages persist even after you've selected the "don't remind me again" button option, and is this between versions?
-
Inappropriate? They do not persist, and this is only since upgrading to 0.5.x (3 or 4 I think). I'm not saying they're not a good idea, just that I know I have Ubiquity installed, and I don't need to be reminded. Someone who installed it and doesn't know what it does would probably benefit from them, and so it's probably well worth them being there.
-
Inappropriate?Yeah, Craig, I tend to agree with you somewhat as they did bug me too, but once you click the "don't remind me again" button you shouldn't see these messages again. There has been some discussion on how to better display this feature, but mostly I've learned to ignore it for now.
The idea is to keep them for new users who will likely benefit from the reminder, and probably less useful for you or I who have been using Ubiquity for a while. Although, striking a balance there without adding a pref is a bit difficult.
Back to the original topic though : Mr. Gunn, any ideas on what messages you're seeing?

Yes, Lech, I'm seeing the "some verbs were not loaded" Parser 2 message, and another message from one of my commands that the parser message appears over the top of. They're growl-type messages, not the kind of message notifying you that you have a command for a site, and the messages appear every time I open the browser anew, but not when I open a new window. The problem is that I can't see the other message because the "some verbs were not loaded" message comes over the top of it. I can see this becoming a bigger problem if I have a couple more commands, all of which display a message upon opening the browser.
I don't know if a "display ubiquity growl messages" pref is the way to handle this or not, but I really don't need to see the same message every time I open the browser, especially not from every command that thinks it's a good idea to display such a message. -
Inappropriate?Sorry about the late reply, Mr. Gunn...
I think what you're seeing over the regular growl messages are just Firefox toaster (systray-like) pop-ups. I've seen these whenever parser 2 is enabled but there are still parser 1 commands (they'll be marked on the right with a little red tag) enabled in the command list. Chances are these also double up and appear as growl messages as well (I don't use growl so I don't know) which can quickly become annoying.
If you're using parser 2, a good start would be to disable all of the parser 1 commands in your list. After which you should be able to restart Firefox and they should disappear. If that doesn't work, you can try to unsubscribe from those feeds to see if has any effect.
Personally, I ended up purging all parser 1 commands from my list as I too was getting those messages frequently enough to a point where I no longer wanted to see them. I would only recommend this if you're comfortable with losing all of those feeds.
On a side note, I know that there might be some growl-specific settings in the next version which should allow you to more finely tune and control some of the messages that are displayed. But since I don't use growl myself I couldn't tell you if it works or not. If you're daring enough you could grab one of the latest beta versions to give it a spin and perhaps give some feedback. -
Thanks, Lech. Disabling all parser 1 commands was the first thing I tried, but there were some I couldn't disable. Thanks for getting back to me, even if late. I guess I'll continue waiting patiently for a fix. (tap tap tap) ;-) -
Alright, hopefully we'll have fixed this in an upcoming version. Thanks for being patient. :)
