Why Is My Firefox Acting So Damn Stupid?
why is my Firefox acting so damn stupid?
About a week or two ago my Firefox reset its self. it cleared everything and i mean everything. it was like i just downloaded it. so i set everything like i had it before add the extensions i had the whole nine yards. but now when i click to open it it is taking 5 minutes to open. and it is browsing so slow it is browsing like I'm on a dial up connection and slower. i know that it is not my connection because it is running at 12.5mbps down load and 5.7mbps upload. and when i go to some web sites it asks me "do you want Firefox to view this web page yes or no" i click yes then it asks me "are you sure you want Firefox to view this web page yes or no" by this time I'm starting to curse. i click yes and it asks me " are you really sure you want Firefox to view this web page yes or no" now I'm steaming mad. I click yes and the browser closes. and when i click on the desktop icon it says Firefox is already running please close Firefox first then try again. but I don't see it running anywhere. but it still wont open it so i wait around 3 to 5 minutes and i click and nothing for 5 minutes then it opens. and Firefox is storing all the internet history and cookies and stuff like that in internet explorer when i click on clear private info in Firefox it says "unable to preform the requested task" so i have to go in to internet explorer and delete everything there first then go back to Firefox and click clear private info and then it dose. so i went and uninstalled Firefox and cleared all traces of it and disabled Internet explorer's filing system where it saves all the internet stuff and went back to where i got Firefox at the Firefox world record site. and a few seconds after i installed it, it updated to 3.0.1 but it is doing the same thing but now it won't keep bookmarks and it wont keep passwords or wont auto fill anything. and now it wont go to Firefox wed sites or Mozilla org sites and something turned the Internet Explorer filing system back on that i turned off so it is saving everything in Internet Explorer and Firefox at the same time. What do I do Next? another quick question about the Firefox chat support: its never open when it says its supposed to be open. So how can I get chat help when it is never open?

Norton asked me if my issue was resolved, so I clarified that it wasn't because they have neither confirmed nor denied the existence of Norton Live 360 or Norton Orb.
Customer (Chimp Anzee) - 07/29/2008 11:02 PM
You know, not really. The existence of Norton Live 360 or Norton Orb
was not denied, and the user complaining that Firefox was working
claimed it could not be the known issues with Norton 360 and Firefox
because he uses a secret product called Orb from "Norton":
http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla/to...
Also, why does Norton 360 screw up Firefox 3? This is your issue.

Turns out, as above, they have a page on fixing issues with Firefox 3 for Norton 360. Will you (Chimpanzee) yet believe that it is indeed a Norton problem?
I’m happy Symantec responded
The company says
this solves the problem

Inappropriate?I'm talking to Lucy on IRC, she says " yes we did have problems with covering the set shifts for a while, but we've changed them and should be open barring technical problems" in response to your mention about live chat not being open. Live chat is pretty new, they're still getting the kinks out of it.
The rest of it sounds like Norton 360 acting weird (mainly with the profile issue where your bookmarks disappeared), there's a support article on this. If you want, you should try the chat room mentioned in the sig (below). This uses a different system than live chat.

Firefox support can be found in the form of a knowledge base, you can ask a question at support.mozilla.com, visit our chat room at irc.mozilla.org #firefox, or just post here at Get Satisfaction. -
the files they are asking me to check are not there. every thing after the Symantec Shared are not there C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\coShared\CIM\2.6 So what next? -
Inappropriate?I would go there but ever since i reinstalled Firefox i can't get to the Firefox web sites and Internet Explorer doesn't allow me to see the whole pages only parts of them on the Firefox support pages that is.

Try running Firefox in Safe Mode. Get to it by going to the Start Menu, Programs, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode) -
Just tried that, no dice. it said this web page can not be viewed in safe mode -
How are you even posting here if IE won't load pages fully and Firefox is broken? -
I'm using Firefox right now on some web pages it works fine and some it won't lode the pages it keeps asking me if i want Firefox to view this page. read my posting again it tells you :^) -
See, there's no way Firefox will ask you if you want to view a page. That's, I'm being told, most likely a virus. -
I've done full system scans and nothing is showing up. i even did a full system scan on Microsoft's security web site and nothing there ether. I mean its passable might be, but i really doubt it is a virus.. and Firefox has asked me if i wanted it to view web pages a lot of times but its always been an encrypted page with non encrypted content. and all of my friends say their Firefox asks them all the time but not over and over. -
So which antivirus are you using? I only guessed Norton 360 earlier because of your issues, but you didn't mention. -
Inappropriate? Its a new program by Norton its called orb it is not for sale and its not advertised they give it to selected subscribers of Norton live 360 and they garentee you will never get a virus and if by chance you do happen to get one they will repair your system and restore everything or buy you a system of your choice with everything your files etc. on the new system. and pay up to one million dollars for any files that might have been lost or corrupted. it runs with Norton live 360. I know you never heard of it neither had I. just a note Norton live 360 is not Norton 360 its much better and it is for sale but hard to find because its damn good and a new Norton product.
I’m Waiting for a good anwser

There is no "good answer" for you if you are unwilling to properly configure Norton 360. It's like calling Windows Vista Home a completely different product from Windows Vista Business. It is still Windows Vista. If you refuse to believe that, and refuse to configure Norton 360 properly, then there is nothing I can do. -
I have contacted Symantec directly to confirm the existence of "orb" and "Norton Live 360", and linked them to your problem. Also, have you tried running LiveUpdate? -
Inappropriate?Just got a reply, I moved my e-mail to the top to make it more clear:
Customer (Chimp Anzee) - 07/26/2008 08:37 PM
Is there actually a product called "Orb" or a product called "Norton Live 360"? I can't find any information about either but a user claims he has issues with both, and Firefox. I think he has been confused by spam and has a virus. I'd like to confirm this issue. His issue is here: http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla/to...
If this issue is not resolved to your satisfaction, you may reopen it

So, he does not confirm Norton Live 360, or Orb. Where did you obtain either from? -

Turns out, as above, they have a page on fixing issues with Firefox 3 for Norton 360. Will you (Chimpanzee) yet believe that it is indeed a Norton problem?
I’m happy Symantec responded
The company says
this solves the problem
-
Inappropriate?I don't know how to stop this problem report I got the problem fixed. it was a bad plugin. Emmet one of the tech's at justin.tv helped me. he told me which plugin it was and how to remove it and where to get another one that doesn't have the bug in it. so everything is running great with my Firefox 3 browser its not acting retarded anymore this problem is solved in my book
I’m Happy my Firefox is back running again
-
For posterity's sake, won't you tell us which plugin it was? -
Inappropriate? Why do you mark this problem as not being a problem?
it is (well was) a problem if it weren't a problem i wouldn't have posted anything
I now have another problem. That problem is you Thomas unofficial rep. I will report you asap
you need to go back to your sand box and play. and leave the answering to
the people who know what they are talking about and respects the person
with the problems and/or questions.
I felt from the start that i was dealing with an immature person. now i know i was
I also got a few emails about you too.
I’m Very unhappy with Thomas the unofficial rep for Mozilla
-
The problem was either with Norton 360 (and they know this and have their own page on it) or a plugin. These are not official Mozilla products, and thus it is not a problem. I do not know what you are talking about otherwise, I don't know who e-mailed you about me and I don't know what they said. Either way, I would not call contacting Symantec on your behalf "immature", I would call it taking initiative. I'm sorry that you feel differently. -
Please let's keep the discourse civil and refrain from name-calling / personal insults. From the looks of this thread Thomas has tried to help Chimpanzee with this issue. I think some confusion comes in with how the topic is being labeled. Chimpanzee had a problem and it is now solved. Thomas is making the point that the problem was not with Mozilla itself but an outside source and thus is labeling this as not being a problem. I think it comes down to semantics. Perhaps, Chimpanzee, you can share the solution here so that the thread has more closure and can also help others who come across the same problem in the future? And perhaps, Thomas, you can change the status of this topic to "solved". Marking a problem "solved" does not mean conceding that the problem was an issue with the company in question. In Get Satisfaction's customer community we mark problems solved all the time even when the problem was user error or some other cause that was not our responsibility directly. Thomas, if you disagree with me, feel free to start a topic in the GS area about the logic behind selecting topic status and we can discuss it further. It would probably be a useful conversation for many folks. -
Sure, switched to Solved. -
Thanks, Thomas.
