This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Corrupt Personal address book in Thunderbird for MAC.
I’m frustrated, annoyed, irritated

Inappropriate? It didn't help because my address book doesn't exactly look like the one that is supposedly normal and there is no appending text that looks like the one on that link. I don't know how to locate the corrupted text and remove it to make the file work.

Inappropriate?HI Ilan:
1. It didn't help because my address book doesn't exactly look like the one that is supposedly normal
Not sure what this means. Does this mean you can't find the .mab files? Perhaps you could post an explanatory screenshot?
2. there is no appending text that looks like the one on that link.
Not sure what you mean by "appending text". Perhaps you could post a screenshot of what you mean to clarify?
3. I don't know how to locate the corrupted text and remove it to make the file work.
Well I guess first you have to find the files, did you find them?
On my Mac the files are in:
~/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/[Profile name]/
which for me is:
/Users/rolandtanglao/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/gkvxa6kq.default
your profile name will be different of course
and in this directory I see the following .mab files:
abook.mab history.mab
What do you see?
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate?I found the .mab file, that isn't the issue. The link above that you sent had a section called: "Recovering corrupt address books". I tried to follow the instructions there, making a copy of the abook.mab.bak file and then opening it in TextEdit. (I assume that is what you meant I should do, since my profile is not damaged, my only problem is a corrupt address book.)
However, when I open it in textedit, I see a huge file with a ton of text, and do not see anything that looks like the supposedly corrupt text in that link, i.e. I did not see anything like:
"[2005-10-27 16:05:54 768 848 Setup Successfully copied source file
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\WebSetup\wuauclt.exe to C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuauclt.exe.wusetup.8490828.new
2005-10-27 16:05:54 768 848 Setup Setup successfullly moved C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuauclt.exe.wusetup.8490828.new
to C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuauclt.exe 2005-10-27 16:05:54 768 848 Setup File operations for section wuauclt
completed successfully]
"
I didn't see that or anything analogous, probably because I'm running MacOS. So I need to know what text is corrupting my .mab file.
I’m confused

Inappropriate? Why is the file format so incomprehensible? If mozilla knows what the format of the file is supposed to be (look like) then there should be a way to recover the file ... even if on an entry by entry method ... it's just code! Can mozilla post a code snippet that parses the abook.mab file?
