It should work, however as far as I know, there is still a bit of testing going on, and there may be a few things to be polished, particularly regarding UAC. Best thing I can suggest is to try it, see how it works, and let us know if you run into any problems so that we can identify them and let the developers know. -
noticed if i shutdown thunderbird to quickly thunder bird still runs in background and wont let it startup again. -
turned off show text notification . i'll try this for a while. -
I was using win 7 task scheduler ot start thunderbird , it doesnt work the same as vista's.I have to script taskkill in a different task to end the program.. -
Inappropriate?Yes TB works on Win 7 64! Not only does it work, I have set up folders and profiles on a different partition and have Win 7 and XP pro using the same profile and sharing the same mail accounts and local folders, even lightning is working very well this way on this dual boot computer.

Inappropriate?I have managed to install the English version of TB on my Windows 7 powered computer, however the German version (my mother tongue) can't be installed as the McAfee virus program installed on my computer "detects" a trojan virus in the install file... Is this a known bug? Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks in advance for your help! -
Inappropriate?A number of us are having problems with Tbird on Win7. Get the message "Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system." Unfortunately, no Thunderbird processes are running.
I have found that it runs just fine, if the user account is non-admin, but will give the above message from an admin account. Trying all the compatibility options do not affect the error response.
Probably a Thunderbird bug. -
Inappropriate?Stephen:
It's a Windows 7 setting. You have to right click on Thunderbird and set its properties so that it runs as non admin.

Inappropriate?Hallo PeterOhle:
This is a false alarm from MacAfee that seems to affect all non US versions of Thunderbird.
The workaround is to install 2.0.0.22 us version and upgrade to 2.0.0.23
We are working on clearing the false alarm from McAfee for all locales including DE and GB.

Inappropriate?I have windows 7 and Thunderbird version 2.0.0.23 (20090812) , It performs fine but all my email display in text only. I have set the "Message Body" to Original-HTML but this does not help. The same emails display just fine in outlook. What next ?

I have no problem with Windows 7 and Thunderbird. Install went fine. -
Inappropriate?What is the simple adjustment to the C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\profiles.in file ?: I was actually feeling like I was going to have a stroke when I noticed there was no mail program in 7. Can I just import all my contacts and email folders that are sitting on my vista machine? Thanks </user>
-
Inappropriate?Yes, Thunderbird works with Windows 7. I just installed Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 on my newly loaded Windows 7 machine with no problems. A simple adjustment to the C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming \Thunderbird\profiles.in file and I've got all my previous email, account settings and extensions.
To Greg - This is what worked for me:
Inside the profiles.ini file, at the bottom is a line that reads 'Path=Profiles/xxxxxxx.default' If you have put your profile in the
default location you only need change the end of that line to match the exact name of the profile you copied from you old computer (old OS, wherever). For example if your profile on the old computer was 1234abcd.default,
(and is now on the new computer in C:\users\{user}\appdata\roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles) the line should read:
Path=Profiles/1234abcd.default
If you put your profile in a specific spot of your choosing, you'll have to change two lines in the profiles.ini The path name will now be the location you chose, (with the slashes the other direction).
For example, if your Thunderbird profile is now in X:\important\xyz56789.default, the line should read:
Path=x:\important\xys5678.default
Also, change the line above, since the path is no longer relative,
but specific. It should read:
IsRelative=0
Note - if you just installed Thunderbird and can't find your profiles.ini file- 1) make sure you can view hidden files. 2) Start Thunderbird at least once.
It prompts if you want to import, say "don't import anything". Next it wants you to set up an email account, fill out the basic name, email address, etc, enough to get past the setup to a blank inbox. What you enter doesn't matter, it can be bogus names. (Also do not download new messages). This makes Thunderbird create the profile folder and the profiles.ini file.
