Fonts in Thunderbird Display Options dropdown list show up as question marks
Devanagari fonts show up as question marks in Thunderbird. I went to Preferences>Display> Fonts>Fonts for>Devanagari and tried to select "Devanagari MT" which is the standard font that comes with Mac OS 10.5, but there are two fonts in the drop down list that show up as question marks. I'm able to select Devanagari MT just fine in the Firefox Fonts list, and Firefox displays Devanagari text just fine. I'm using Thunderbird 2.0.0.21. If I copy the question marks from the Thunderbird message into TextEdit or something similar, the message is perfectly readable.

Inappropriate?Since you've tagged this Hindi, does someone have to be on a Hindi install of OS X for this to show up? As well, are you using the Hindi localization of Thunderbird?
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Sorry, perhaps I misunderstood the tagging process. I just tagged it as Hindi because I thought it might help people searching for this problem. I'm not using a Hindi install of OS X nor a Hindi localization of Thunderbird. I shall also take off the Hindi tag now. Sorry for the confusion!

Inappropriate?Well, um, SHOULD you be using a hindi install of either? Are these fonts requiring, perhaps, the installation of some more languages into OS X?

Inappropriate?I don't think so. I encounter no problems in Firefox while viewing multiple scripts and languages, including that same "Devanagari MT" font, which does come built into OS X. To me, the problem seems to be that I can't actually select the Devanagari MT font in the drop down list in Thunderbird, where one chooses the fonts in which to display certain, simply because the font doesn't show up in that list. It does, on the other hand, show up in that same drop down list in Firefox, which is probably why it works fine there.
Also, as I mentioned in my original post, if I copy the question marks displayed in the message from Thunderbird to something like TextEdit, the message displays perfectly fine. This also leads me to conclude that I don't need a Hindi localization for OS X or Thunderbird.
To summarize, what is frustrating me is that it works in Firefox, works in TextEdit, works in Mail, Safari and iWork, so why not Thunderbird?

I have no idea, sorry. Someone else might come across this and help. I know this is a terrible response, but since the lack thereof usually causes a new thread saying 'THOMAS DID YOU ABANDON ME?' I have to write this :-/
