Identifying accounts in smart folders doesn't work

I am using TB3B4 on Mac 10.5.8. I am using the wonderful Smartfolder inbox that combines my other inboxes. But I want to be able to tell which account the email was sent to, so I added the account column. Only very old ('07) emails have any account info. Is this a bug or does "Account" mean something different than email account. I'm sure I could set a workaround by using filters but I'd like to find out if the account column works/is supposed to work.
