Thunderbird Auto-Updates Breaks Thunderbird
How do i disable automatic updates because every time it updates thunderbird does not work anymore and i have to reboot in safe mode and delete all the files associated with it and then re-install it again. It'll just keep saying update failed, then restart, try updating again, and over and over again. I've had this problem with all the versions of thunderbird i have used, and everytime an update comes out it does this. It is a major pain and is making me think of not using this great software anymore. Can anyone help me with either disabling the auto updates, and i'll just run an out of date version or is there a fix for this??

I suspect you have or had a logitech webcam. There's a known incompatibility, where the best way around it is:
"Uninstall the Logitech Quickcam software. Once uninstalled you will be able to install Thunderbird without any problems. If you want to keep your Quickcam software installed you can try to shut it down from the taskbar. Still the surest way to fix this is to just uninstall your Quickcam software. After you have completed the Thunderbird upgrade you can then reinstall the Quickcam Software."

Inappropriate? When I did the restart to install the new update it went into the install loop as described by others. I rebooted the pc and Thunderbird wouldn't start. I downloaded the new version and it will not install. I tried deleting the old version but it would not let me.

Works great. Thanks. -
I just exited the logicam from taskbar and was able to re-install Thunderbird. Thanks a lot for the tip. -
Inappropriate?Excellent, ending the quickcam task from the task manager made the program install perfectly.
Now, when will this be fixed permanently ?

Inappropriate?I'm not sure when it'll be fixed permanently. There is a fix for the Thunderbird 3 line, but it hasn't been back-ported yet.

Inappropriate?Maybe these problems are related?
update version 2.00.22 deleted all dated 2008 messages
Hi, I just updated my Thunderbird to version 2.00.22 and all my e-mails dated 2008 simply disappeared after that. This is really bad, because I had important documents there, with no backup

Inappropriate?I have a similar problem after an automatic update and it's impossible to instal again Thunderbird as mozMapi32 .ddl file is broken.- error message when I try to uninstall thunderbord....
do you think that is someting related to Logitech?
I’m frustrated
-
Maya, mozmapi32 is the file that Logitech locks and makes it impossible to upgrade. Close or uninstall the logitech software and try again, it should work. -
Inappropriate?Thank you for the answer Thomas, but..
I uninstalled logitech software but it was impossible to uninstall the old version of Thunderbird, mandatory before installing the new one...
I no understand but, never mind, I will no more use thunderbird...too many problems with in the last time..

I'm guessing it's worked but you didn't feel it was worth it to add another reply. Also, you can disable automatic updates by going to Tools, Options, Advanced, Update, and change "Automatically download and install" to "ask me what I want to do". -
Inappropriate?Update does not install - the message is one or more files could not be updated, close applications and (theyi're closed!) and check permissions

Inappropriate?Lee Anne and Alan:
We suspect this is caused by Logitech quickcam software.
As Thomas said earlier in this topic:

It worked like a charm - many thanks! However,it was a pest to re-install the Logitech software as my camera is extremely old (QuickCam Pro 3000). -

This was from Thomas, official rep. I've tried it and time will tell if it works!
