Update and new Install both Fail
Update failed on XP. A few days ago my 87 year old mother who uses email extensively said yes to a Thunderbird update on her XP computer. The update failed and her email has not worked since. I just tried installing the current version of Thunderbird and the install is failing with the following messge:
"Error opening c:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\mozMapi32.dll. What can I do to get her back online with all of her existing emails and contact info? Thanks.

Inappropriate?I am also unable to uninstall Thunderbird via the control panel or by looking for a means to do so in the Thunderbird uninstall folder.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? There is a program on /WINDOWS/System32 called fixmapi.exe, you should backup every Mapi32.dll file and add an extension like .old, then you could try to run fixmapi.exe to see if it fixes your issue

Inappropriate?es-beto's idea helped define my issue - I couldn't access those dll files because Windows thought they were still being used even when I couldn't get on Thunderbird - what DID work was to rename the Mozilla Thunderbird file (after saving a copy of the original) and then the install wizard was able to function with the freshly downloaded Thunderbird - now I've got my old files and my email function back - maybe it will work for you!
