WHY! is it so hard for mozilla to add a default BCC to thunderbird?
i find it very annoying that there is no default for BCC. WHY??? it cannot be that big of thing to incorporate into this otherwise great application. it is the ONLY reason that i switched to Mail. can you not fix this???

In Tools/Account Settings, for the account you want, under Copies & Folders, there's an area under "When sending messages, automatically", where you can specify what email addresses to Bcc automatically.
That should work for you, I think!

Thank you for the fix, however, it does not answer my question nor solves the problem. i do not send to the same people all the time, therefore automatically Bcc a group is not efficient as i would then have to go in and remove names from the list each time. WHY cant this glitch be fixed??
is there a copyright issue for the software? -
Inappropriate?I think this is the same problem as I reported as "Add To Bcc" and I don't see how the fix given by David Ascher has anything to do with the problem. All I want is to be able have the "Add to Bcc:" option in addition to the Add to To: and Add to Cc: as was available a few releases ago.
I’m disaappointed!

Inappropriate?I must have misunderstood the question of "add a default bcc". For many people, they want a bcc to their own email account, and doing so in the account preferences is the right way.
I have to say i don't understand specifically what you're trying to do, and I'm not convinced you both have the same needs. From what window, what are you selecting that you want to have "Add to Bcc:"?
From the message composition dialog, you can pick the To: field and make it be Cc or Bcc or whatever else you want. New email addresses that you add to that email will pick up whatever the last one is, so if you pick Bcc for the first, then you'll have Bcc for the others by default.
From the contacts sidebar, you can select names, and the context (right-click) menu lists Add to Bcc.
Can you be specific about where you're not seeing the option you're looking for?

Thank you for trying again.
when i am writing/sending a message, i would like to be able to select the recipients and add them as Bcc. the way it is now, and i just tried your suggestions, i have to change each addition from To to Bcc . I tried the right click and changing the first one. it is not automatic, i still have to change each one individually. in 'mail', i can highlight the Bcc field and click on the names and the names appear in that field, or i can highlight several names at once then click on the Bcc button and the names will go to the bcc field.
If i can get the right click to work, that would indeed solve the problem.
P. S. the recipient field defaults to 'To' --could there be an option somewhere, preferences maybe, so that the recipient field defaults to Bcc. -
Also, in the contacts pane, at the bottom under the addresses there are 2 buttons: 'Add to To:' and 'Add to Cc'. I guess my question is why can't there be an 'Add to Bcc:' as well? -
carlagustus, FYI, in Thunderbird 3, there will be an Add to Bcc: button in the contacts pane. -
Caragustus: if you're using the contacts pane and selecting them, try using the right click menu (or command-click if you're on a mac) and selecting Add to Bcc field. -
YIPPIE! all is well.
BIG thanks. -
Inappropriate?I'm not sure what cartagustus means by add to "default" bcc but I was not aware that right clicking would give me the option to select add to Bcc. This option solves the problem for me. Thank you!
I don't understand your other suggestion of using the "message composition dialog" but I'm happy with the above suggestion.
I’m happy
