Analyzing is taking ages!
I have a macbook (unibody) with a 2.4 GHZ processor and 4 GB of RAM running Muvee Reveal (2014) in Windows XP SP3 in bootcamp, with the latest drivers and updates.
Muvee Reveal crashed a lot, but it was sometimes usable right after deleting the contents of the "muvee techologies" folder, although in that case I would have to start the proyect again. I decided to reinstall Windows from scratch and install muvee again with no other third party applications installed on the system to see if it worked.
The problem is that now analizing (or spliting a video) is taking ages. I mean, it could be 10 hours for a 10 minute clip. I have also noticed that when I preview the clip, it plays very-very slowly.
Do you know if there is a way to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance.

Inappropriate?Hi Rodrigo,
Your problem is indeed strange (and frustrating of course). I may be able help since I run Reveal on a somewhat older Macbook Pro with Vista running under bootcamp.
Can you try the sample video that is installed when you install Reveal? You can find it in "C:\Program Files\muvee Technologies\muvee Reveal\Samples". Its a file called "video.wmv". Does that give you slow analysis and preview as well?
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Thank you for your swift reply Kumar.
The sample video plays fine and analizing it is very quick. The files I am having trouble with are mp4 h264 files. It was DV video encoded to mp4 with handbrake. Note that these same videos played fine and were analized pretty fast the first time I installed the software. As I commented, I had to reinstall the software and also Windows because Movie Reveal was crashing a lot. Is there any additional information you will need from my side? Thanks.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?I wonder whether the codec that is kicking in is quicktime or the one that comes with muvee Reveal. Gimme some time to create a handbrake encoded video to see if it has some special characteristics. Meanwhile, can you please check if there is any change in the performance characteristic when you change the file extension from (I presume) ".mp4" to ".mpg"?
-
Inappropriate?Ok I tried one of my videos after encoding it using handbrake (to h.264) and it worked fine. Will it be possible to send me a 1-min clip in case your encoder settings are different?

my address is kumar at muvee dot com. I also recommend you file a support ticket so we can walk you through some diagnostics to figure out the reason why your installation is crash prone. Have you already done that? -
Inappropriate?Kumar, I changed the extension from .mp4 to .mpg and the preview worked almost fine for a few seconds, but then I got a runtime error. I unistall quicktime and then reinstall Muvee Reveal and now I can preview and analize these .mp4 clips with no problems so far, so it appears the problem was with quicktime. The preview still stutters every 5 or 8 seconds though and I will like to reinstall quicktime...
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Glad the problem is now clearer and workaroundable, but it is still strange to me 'cos I have quicktime installed too. muvee Reveal does support quicktime mov files, for example, when quicktime is installed so that pipeline is a valid one. Let me check with some colleagues and get back to you on whether there are similar known issues with specific versions of quicktime.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Ok I have some more info - quicktime is indeed the first step to decode mp4 files in muvee Reveal, so your uninstallation workaround makes sense. It looks like the problem shows up with video files encoded with handbrake that have B-frames.
One other workaround (with quicktime installed) therefore is to set the B-frames field to 0 in the advanced encoder settings of Handbrake.
Rodrigo - I've logged this issue internally. We'll post here once we have an update with this fix. Thanks a lot for your cooperation.
