PHILIPPINE FASHION WEEK 2009
JUNE 1 SHOW
TWINKLE FERARIN
Got out of my meeting late and wanted to eat first which makes me sad to have missed the other designs but my stomach ruled this time. Was able to catch up and see only the last few of her pieces.
Over all the finale with the girl in a flowing robe and white swimsuit number was marvelous. What really made me and my friends stop was a guy dressed in a frilly like top|tie reminiscent of the Victorian Era. I was not however a fan of the hand bands [also frilly] though.
ZIGGY SAVELLA
Great design aesthetics although some of the cuts for the women where not tailored well enough for my tastes. A superb Men's line and color wise everything was perfectly muted with splashes of a few bright pieces. If he hadn't done so I fear the collection could have gotten a bit boring. I was sad to see the girl in a fabulous leather coat not take it off to showcase the look of what was underneath, what looked like a asymmetrical cut plaid dress.
AFTER
People lined up to leave right away though you could hear the murmurs of few who saw exciting works created by some of today's up and coming designers. Really wish we had arrived earlier to witness the whole show but we can only choose our battles. Saw a fabulous girl in a pink and white dress reminiscent of 50's glamour. Loved the black belt and leggings she accessorized with, it would have been almost perfect with better earrings and sans the horrendous bag.
Other mentionables was a lady in a gorgeous sapphire colored ruffle dress and her friends simple contrast with a bright yellow bag drawing the attention to both of them rather than smothering their collective look. An abundance of jewel tinted dresses on attendees this year. Mostly hot pinks, blues and bright yellows such as a girl in an understated cobalt tube dress holding a yellow clutch. Through this multi-colored effect you could see that classic shades and cuts still ruled with black and grey dominating the foreground.
Purple tee dress with light yellow sling bag was almost good, a few tweaks and hue changes would have done the woman wonders. A skull shirt on a rocker guy that I totally love! As the swarm of people grew thinner this fabulous guy holding a Penshoppe bag drew my attention. He was decked in brown|black plaid pants and a white jacket taking pictures with some skinny Asian dude, probably a model. Guess less really is more since the model looking guy was in a black v-neck and skinny black jeans number. Is black back again?
One simplified look that struck me was a girl in a loose purple top with a cropped jacket, skinny jeans and a studded leather shoulder bag. Now she knows how to rock vintage with modern trends.
HATE
Rarely do I discriminate against fashion since it is a form of expression but I had to look away from the orange pants. I was very tempted to burn them!!! Even if one of the designers were sporting it. Another designer in a black top with pink plaid detailing paired with purple leotards, don't you know that the 80's are over? It is the decade fashion forgot. Pair the bright leggings with a more classic top to be sleek and chic. Modernizing is the key not a blast from the past look [unless you are going to a theme party]. UGLY. UGLY. UGLY Multi-colored dress with platform sandals. Take a page from the runway. Though from the other two looks I hated that might not be such a good idea after all.
