Statistics load very slowly, reports can take minutes to run

I've used the MyBlogLog statistics for several years, and always noticed that it loaded very slowly -- sometimes taking up a minute to load stats pages.

I recently decided to try becoming a Pro user, thinking that maybe (just maybe?) page load times would be better for paying customers. Unfortunately, this is not the case.

And, in fact, running reports (something only paying customers can do) often is so slow that it's almost unusable. I ran a simple report (pulling stats for two days earlier this month) five minutes ago, and the browser is still churning ... the page still hasn't loaded.

This seems like a problem that has persisted for years -- is there any solution on the horizon?
